Xavier's POV Leaning back against my seat, my hand gripped the top of the back rest with the intention to keep still. I could sense the approach of the shifter, could already smell the human he'd brought with him the moment she stepped into the premises. Swallowing back the urge to stand, I stared toward the doorway, listening to the conversation Emelie was having with Poala. She'd requested that the girl go to the market with her and I'd relented much too easily. There had been no deliberation, no hesitation, and the older woman had given me a long look that told me that she hadn't missed how out of place it was for me to show any amount of eagerness about a situation. Truthfully, I'd never been very eager about anything before. Excitement had always been a foreign concept to me.
