Kai was nowhere to be found as everyone at the camp settled in for the night, and it felt weird pulling on my sneakers while everyone else was brushing their teeth and getting ready for bed. Well, almost everyone else. Harriet kicked on some sandals, muttering, "I'm going with you." When Cherise bounded into the room, tugging at my hands, whispering, "Hurry, hurry," we followed her out of the refugee center, around the side of the building toward the field we ran around every morning. Standing at the far side, next to the opening of the trail the elves always took, were two figures, one slightly taller than the other. It was hard to see in the darkness but, as we approached, a soft glow lit up from Felix's palm, lighting up the area around them. "Took you long enough," Vin grumbled.
