Darien I woke to pale blue light coming into the room. I was exhausted. Every part of me ached, from the ride, from the fight, from the grief that sat in my chest like a stone I could not swallow. I reached for Celeste. She was not there. I sat up fast. I looked around the room. Empty. I was on my feet and out the door before I had finished thinking. I searched every hall, every corridor, every balcony. Josh came running at the commotion. “Go get Leo. I can’t find Wren!” Josh took off. I spotted the note on the table. I snatched it up and read it and crushed it in my fist. My wolf howled inside my chest. She was gone. Josh came skidding back. “I can’t find Leo either. The watchmen said two horses rode toward the upper forest a couple hours ago. We’re missing two from the stables.
