“So. Was I just as good?” Darien leaned down and kissed my forehead and I giggled into his chest.
“You won’t hear any complaints from me.” I burrowed deeper into his arms, breathing in his scent, feeling the warmth of his skin against mine.
“I don’t know why you would love someone like me.” His voice was barely there, whispered against my temple.
“What’s not to love?” I tilted my head up. “I honestly don’t know how anyone couldn’t love you. Besides being annoyingly handsome …” I felt the corner of his mouth turn up against my hair. “You’re fun. Gentle. Kind. Loving. You have a terrible temper and you guard yourself like a fortress, but I would pick you a thousand times over.”
“Most people are afraid of me.” His voice was soft with something old and tired.
