Emma POV
As Charlie and I finished showing the Alphas where each pack would stay we met back up at the entrance of the pack house. Hearing a lot of vehicles coming our way, I just assume that the packs have arrived and that the other Alphas were on their way to show them around. To our amazement, the first person who got out of the lead vehicle came straight up to me and gave a slight bow.
“Good afternoon, miss. I am Gamma Mike from Midnight pack, my alpha sent me in his place, he had a family emergency and both the Alpha and the Beta of my pack are not able to make it tonight. I know that we are late, but would you still have room for us?” Mike asks.
“Of course Mike, how many of you are there?” I ask, trying to figure out where to put his pack members.
“There are 250 of us miss,” Mike says, shocking me to my core. That is way more than I was expecting and the only place that I can think of that is somewhat free to fit everyone is the floor of living quarters where my family lives.
“Uncle Adam, would you be able to convince my family to stay on our floor so we can clear their floor for the Midnight pack members to stay tonight? They have 250 members here, and that is the only place we have that can occupy most of the pack members. We’re still going to find a couple more rooms to help make room, I will share my room if need be. There should also be 2 extra rooms on either side of my room that are empty that we can use. I just want to try to keep as many pack members together as I can,” I mind link the Alpha and Charlie.
“Whatever you think will be best will happen, I will make sure of it. But, just so you know, that is great leadership thinking,” Uncle Adam responds.
“Dad, you may want to get on that quickly. All the pack members from Midnight Pack are already here,” Charlie warns.
“Okay, it has been taken care of. The rooms will be ready in five minutes.”
“Miss, is there enough room for us here to stay the night? If there isn’t room in the pack house some of us can stay outside, we won’t mind,” Mike says, interrupting our private conversation. I look behind him to see his pack has already started gathering behind him, ready to get settled in.
“No problem at all, we will have you stay on the floor where my family normally lives and three rooms on my floor. I hope your pack won’t mind sharing rooms and a few of your members will stay with me as well. We weren’t expecting that many but we will do what we can to help accommodate your pack so you are comfortable here,” I explain.
“Emma Lee, why in the world did you skip school today and why are you wasting that pack’s time? You need to go and help everyone get set up,” I hear my twin brother yell as he walks up to us. It takes everything in me to control Astrid, who is not happy that Nikolas has disrespected them in front of another pack.
“Niki, I am about to show these pack members to where they will stay for tonight,” I inform him, really not liking his attitude.
“That still doesn’t answer my question mom and dad are pissed that you skipped school. And what makes you think you should be the one to help with the packs, that isn’t your responsibility,” he snarls at me. I turn away from him and barely hold in the growl that Astrid tries to force out.
“Astrid, not in front of them. They shouldn’t see me lose control right now,” I beg her. She complies but barely, and I turn back around to face my brother.
“Actually, Nikolas, it is Emma’s responsibility to help show around the packs. She has to be good at all the politics that come with her upcoming position as Beta,” Charlie says, causing Nikolas to fume.
“YOU’RE MAKING HER THE BETA?” he yells at Charlie. Nikolas then turns to me and in his anger he throws a sucker punch to the right side of my face I wasn’t expecting and my head whips with the force he used and I stumble into Mike. I place my hand on his chest trying to catch my balance and he helps me regain it by holding me up by my hips. By now not only is Astrid pissed but so am I. We are fighting for control and I can feel my claws trying to come out and my eyes shifting from my blue to Astrids glowing gold color. I look into Mike’s eyes and I hear him suck in a breath.
“Sorry about that,” I apologize before turning around to face Nikolas again.
“YOU b***h, YOU KNOW THAT I WAS SUPPOSED TO HAVE THAT POSITION,” he screams, rushing me and trying to punch me in the face again. Before he can make contact I use my speed against him and grab a hold of his fist and squeeze. I shove his arm down with enough force that he is nearly on the ground, looking up at me with wide eyes.
“No, Niki, you aren’t supposed to have this position in the pack. You are weak and you don’t even train with the warrior like you should. You are failing in school and are horrible at politics, I didn’t ask for this position. The Alpha and the future Alpha have chosen me and that is the end of it, Niki. Now get out of here and go do what the Alpha asked you to,” I calmly say shoving him away. While he backs up and leaves, I see him grab his arm as though I truly hurt him. I turn back to Mike and his pack. Time to do damage control.
“I am sorry that you had to see that,” I apologize. Looking into Mike’s eyes, I can tell that he is impressed with how I handled the situation.
“No, miss, I am sorry that he just acted that way towards you. There is no excuse for what he just did,” he said, cupping my chin and turning my face so he could see the damage. I could feel that it was black but with my healing I know that it will be fine in just a few minutes so i gently shake my head out of his grip.
“I’m fine, let’s get you and your pack settled in,” I say, turning around and leading the way up to the 5th floor.
