Caleb’s POV
I was sat at the restaurant waiting for Lily to arrive. I tried to ignore the stresses I had and just focus on our date tonight but it was hard. A lot of the demons under my command were starting to question my motives and were gaining intel that I was interested in a human girl. This obviously caught their attention and got them asking questions, humans rarely amazed us supernaturals. I brushed it off and tried to change the rumours that were going round but it wasn’t going very well. Many of them weren’t as bothered about the angel as much as they were about the girl.
Mikes words bothered me, maybe I really was putting her in danger. Demons were cruel creatures and I didn’t want them hurting her. I needed to uncover what was going on and it would be hard to if they were interfering. I couldn’t trust the ones under my command to stay loyal to me, it isn’t in demons nature to be honest. Like I said, they were cruel. Their nature was filled with sin and deceit, it was why I trusted Damien the most. His nature was only half demon which made him more trustworthy than the others.
I snapped out of my thoughts as I watched Lily approaching our table. I got out of my seat as she came closer.
“Hey.” She shyly greeted. She looked AMAZING. Her curves were on display as she wore a fitter knee length black dress. It was formal yet didn’t make her seem overly dressed. She paired it with some silver earrings, white heels and a white handbag. I had to stop myself from leaving my mouth open in shock as I took in the amazing sight in front of me. It was going to be hard to focus through dinner.
I cleared my throat before I spoke. “You look absolutely stunning” I complimented as I tucked her seat in to the table. As I sat back down she replied.
“Thank you, you look really handsome in your suit.” She blushed as she received my compliment which only made her more beautiful in my eyes.
We got into a comfortable conversation after ordering our drinks as she told me about work and how it had been. I would have lost myself in our talk but I felt eyes on us. It had to be Mike or one of his angel minions. I knew one of them had been following me for a couple of days but then again, I couldn’t complain. I did order Damien to do the exact same thing to him. If I didn’t dislike him so much, I would laugh at how similar we both seem to be.
After we ordered our food, Lily started asking me questions.
“So, how has work been for you then?” I wanted to be off this topic soon.
“Oh just normal really, nothing exciting has been happening lately.”
“And what is it you do again?” I really wanted to cut this conversation short. It’s like she knew I was lying.
“I have my own business in a sense.” I spared details and hope she’s would get the hint to move on.
“I don’t think you ever specified what kind you did, we got distracted last time.” She gave a small smile as we spoke but I felt like there was more to her questions than I realised. Her eyes looked at me suspiciously yet her face wore a small smile as we spoke.
“ Just a mixture really but it’s not important. It can be a bit stressful to talk about, I hope you understand that.” I tried my best to keep my answer polite in hope that she would stop. I could explain that I was a fallen angel and that I had some demons under my command and I sometimes divulged in some ‘not very angelic’ activities in order to gain power and status in the supernatural world; but I highly doubt that would go very well for her. Let alone telling her my sole focus now was to find out the angels plan and who Lily really was. Selling that information could be very profitable for me.
My answer didn’t seem to satisfy her but she dropped the questions as she noticed she wasn’t getting a lot out of me.
Dinner came and we ate. We still spoke but the conversation had an air of tension over it from our previous topic. This was not helping me get to know her better, and if I didn’t know her better than I wouldn’t be able to find out what kind she belonged to. I sighed internally as my frustration grew. This date was not going well.
We both finished our meals and just as I thought things couldn’t get worse, my phone started to ring on vibrate non stop. I apologised to Lily as I saw it was Damien calling me. He had already left me 5 missed calls and 3 messages telling me to ring him back as soon as.
“I’m really sorry, it’s my assistant. I have to take this.” She nodded as I got up to go answer this call.
“This better be good” I seethed as I answered Damien. “ I’m in the middle of something.”
“You need to meet me now, this can’t wait.” He sounded frantic as he spoke which made me nervous. What could have possibly happened?
“Why? What’s happened? Can it not wait another couple of hours?”
“No!” He screeched. “Caleb you need to leave now and come meet me.”
“Fine, this better be good or there will be consequences.” I threatened. This was not going to get me in Lily’s good books. “Come meet me at my place in half an hour.”
“Okay.” He confirmed before he cut the phone.
I walked back to the table hoping Lily would forgive me.
“Lily,” I called as I approached her, “ I’m really sorry but there’s been a problem at the office and I need to go sort this out with my assistant. I can drop you off home on the way back though.”
“Oh no, it’s fine. Go sort out this problem.” Her eyes seemed to be inspecting me as she spoke, it was like she was trying to uncover the truth.
“I’m really sorry. I enjoyed tonight and hope we can do this again sometimes. I’ll talk to you soon.”
I settled the bill and left the restaurant as Lily went to the bathroom before she went home. Damien best be telling me something amazing. I don’t know how I was going to make it up to her. I got into my car and made my way home, hoping that this would be worth it.
