Her Dream

Lily’s POV His tall broad figure slowly started to make its way towards me. The dark and intense gaze he wore forced me to stand still and submit. A lingering portrayal of curiosity and confusion took over for a few moments before he replaced it with his original piercing look. I watched his every move, instantly believing that our interaction would lead to my latest hook up. It’s not that I was easy but the male attention I usually attracted ended up with the guy wanting some fun. Since my past relationships ended in a complete disaster, I enjoyed that I was still able to find some release without the drama that followed. He towered over me as he stopped so close to my body. I held my breath taking in his features. His green eyes held a hint of blue while his brown hair was messy in a way that only made him look more attractive. Before I could say some cringey flirtatious remark, he spoke to me. “What are you?” His question took me of guard. What kind of bizarre thing is that to ask someone? Before I could get over my shock, he spoke again. “What are you?” The question was carried with sincerity in his voice as he studied me with a powerful need to receive an answer to his question. His husky voice sent chills down my spine yet I received an intense pleasure at hearing him speak.  I finally got over my initial shock and found my voice so I could give him the answer he was patiently waiting for. “I’m a waitress, training soon to be a chef. What do you do?” My answer only seemed to bring back the look of curiosity and confusion to him. I studied his reaction, mirroring his confusion since I answered his question. Before he could respond our attention was diverted to the stage. “Thank you all for attending this charity ball tonight. Your donations are greatly appreciated. Please enjoy the rest of your night and make your way to your seats for the raffle”. A grey-haired round man spoke on stage, I guessed he was the organiser of the event. After the cheering and applause erupted, I turned around to continue the conversation with the mysterious stranger only to find him nowhere to be found. The scenery soon changed as I opened my eyes to find myself in my bedroom accompanied by the piercing sound of my alarm. Remnants of last night’s dream played in my head as I realised, I dreamt of that night again. It had been a month since our brief interaction, but I was still unable to get him out of my head. My efforts of finding him after he disappeared that night were in vain. I had looked everywhere but he was nowhere to be found. Sighing to myself, I forced myself out of bed. I just had to get through another day of work before I could sleep and let my mind dream of him. I carried out my normal routine of showering, getting ready and then picking up a quick breakfast for my drive to work. Today I opted for a healthier alternative of an apple rather than a quick breakfast bar. My mind was occupied by his intriguing features as I drove to work, fantasising about the man of my dreams – quite literally. As I got into work I set up the restaurant, praying that the day would go by quickly. I was soon greeted by my best friend as he walked in, cheerful as usual. “Hey Lily, ready for the day?” his cheerful smile caused me to smile back. “Hey Mike. I’m hoping it goes by quick today.” “I mean its Friday, one of the busiest days but you can dream” he replied, letting out a little chuckle. “Speaking of it being Friday, lets go out tonight. It’s been two weeks since we’ve last done anything”. “I’m not sure, I should probably go back and clean up and– ” “Lily”. He gave me a pleading look and I knew I would cave in soon. "Mike". I replied, while mimicking his expression. This caused him to laugh and I ended up doing the same. He always managed to keep my spirits up and I knew that we would have an enjoyable night. I gave in, excited at the prospect of having a night out.  “Okay I’ll come. First round is on you though” I joked with him. “Anything for you princess” he joked back while giving me his signature charming smile. I enjoyed my time with Mike and was grateful that I met him five years ago. We’ve been inseparable ever since.
