Caleb’s POV
I pulled into the park that Lily sent me the address of and looked around . It looked beautiful, I could only imagine it would look better when the sun was setting. I got out of the car and walked over to where I saw her waiting for me, I was surprised to see she was here. I was five minutes early, she must have been here for longer.
“Hey, thank you for meeting me” she softly spoke as I got closer. She looked like she had been crying and my concern was most likely visible on my face. What had happened? I had heard the angels had her in hiding. Anger immediately took over when another thought crossed my mind- what if they had hurt her? Angels did hat ever they needed to for the greater cause and I did not agree with it. They didn’t care who they were affecting, it was one of the reasons I had left. I wouldn’t let them hurt her too.
I walked towards her and instinctively placed my hand on her cheek, while gently caressing her. “Are you okay?” My voice held my concern as worry started to invade me. This girl had turned me from cold hearted, to this. To someone who felt every emotion when it came to her. I had no idea why I was so concerned with her and why she made me like this, but it just felt right.
“I’m fine.” She gave a weak smile but it was hardly convincing. I raised my eyebrow at her, silently willing her to be honest with me. I knew she wouldn’t, if she knew who she really was and what was going on then she would also know who I am. I had no doubt that Michael would have told her I’m a fallen angel when he had the chance. “Let’s go this way, there’s a spot I like to go to near the lake.”
I followed her as she took my hand in hers. It felt like she needed this comfort and I wasn’t going to stop her. Deep down, I enjoyed being around her even though I say it’s only to get answers.
We approached her serene location. I was mesmerised by the sigh in front of me. Behind the lake was an array of flower bed, a variety of colours standing out. We could hear the birds chirp as they flew between the trees that provided us with shade. Sun beans flooded through the leaves as they hit the floor, lighting up the beauty that was hidden. Angels were close with nature, I still had that within me. It made sense why Lily liked to come here.
“It’s so peaceful” I stated, mesmerised by the view.
“I found this place when I was at the orphanage growing up. It soon became a place for me to escape to, somewhere I could sit and think about life or simply just hide away. I used to come here at least once a week when I left but I never got the chance in recent months. I just got too pre occupied with life I guess.” Her sadness carried as she spoke and I felt for her. I never knew she was brought up in an orphanage but it made sense. She was the last of her bloodline; her parents were gone. I thought she would be placed with a foster family, not left aside all her life. Maybe she didn’t really know what she was.
I was broken by my train of thoughts when Lily was staring inquisitively at my face. I wish I knew what she was thinking, her features expressed she wanted to say something. Before I had the chance to guess, she answered my question.
“Do you remember when you first met me?” That was an odd question.
“I do.” I confirmed, unsure of where she was going with this.
“Do you remember what you said to me?” Her voice became stronger as she spoke, it was like she found some new found confidence.
“We only briefly spoke Lily?” I had no idea what she leading up to.
“You asked me what I was and when I answered, you seemed confused by my answer. Did I give you an answer you were expecting?” This conversation seemed to be going in an unwise direction. Did she know about herself now?
“What other possible answer could I have been expecting?” I countered. I had hoped my question would give me an answer but her face was as hard as steel. She was like another person, someone who was strong and powerful. Just like an angel.
“Did I give you an answer you were expecting?” She repeated. Her eyes were hard as they bore into me.
“No.” Surprise overtook her as if she wasn’t ready for my confession.
“You know what I am?” It sounded more like a statement than a question. Her voice was just above a whisper as realisation hit her.
“And you know what I am.” I left no question, I was sure of it. My statement was met with a light nod of her head as she studied me.
“Are you my enemy?”
“Do you think I am Lily?” I stepped closer towards her, every fibre of me just wanted to touch her.
“No.”
“I won’t hurt you.” I agreed. “I may have left Heaven but that does not mean I have sided with Hell. This isn’t my war, just like it isn’t yours.”
I watched the storm brewing behind her eyes and prayed that she would trust me. I may not agree with the angels but I would never hurt her like that. She walked towards, meeting my eyes. I felt her place her hands around my neck and pull me towards her, her lips crashed onto mine with a insatiable fire. I met her eagerness, my stresses faded into the background as happiness overtook me. It may be wrong of me to say but kissing her was my own personal Heaven. She seemed comfort from me and I planned to give that to her. My arms snaked around her waist as I held her close, unwilling to ever let her go.
