***ELARA’S POV***
The feel of the cold water against my skin jolted me awake, gasping for air. I wiped my eyes to clear my vision, and that’s when I noticed I was no longer at home. Beside me was a man holding an empty bucket, obviously because the water had been rudely splashed on my face, and before me stood two figures. One feminine and the other masculine. I glanced around the room and noticed it had only one window at the top end, nothing else was in the room, except me, of course.
“Is she the one?” The feminine figure spoke up. By the sound of her voice, I could tell she was elderly. The room was a bit dark, so I couldn’t see their faces owing to their distance.
“Yes. Is she a witch?” I immediately recognized the masculine figure as the Alpha after hearing his voice. Of course, I wouldn’t forget the voice of my parents' killer. I just need to see his face and know his name. That way, if I were to get out of this place, I would be able to find my way back to him to get my revenge.
The woman approached me, she held a staff in her right hand. It had a blue crystal at the end, and the moment she got close to me, it glowed. The woman gasped, staring at me in total bewilderment. I got curious as to why she looked at me that way, but I didn’t need to wonder for long as I got my answers shortly.
“Alpha Kian, how could you have tied up goddess Elara this way?” she asked—more like scolded. It was then I realized my legs were bound by a chain, along with my waist, restraining me to a pillar, but that wasn’t my interest at that moment. I was more interested in the title the old lady had given me.
“Goddess, what now?” Alpha Kian and I asked simultaneously before glaring at each other. I finally got to know his name, and soon I was sure I would see his face.
“You should untie her right now, Alpha Kian.” The old lady said, her tone was a mix of excitement and fear.
“What rubbish are you blurting out, Celeste?” Kian asked, and even though I couldn’t see his face clearly, I could tell his face was scrunched up in a frown. I too was eager for answers from Celeste, as Kian had called her.
“Look.” Celeste said and brought the staff close to me again. It glowed bright white but stopped glowing the moment she took it away. “This staff was given to me by my mother, who also got it from her mother. It has been passed on through generations of silver-haired witches, and its origin is from the realm of the gods. It recognizes divine presence.” Celeste said, and I suddenly burst out laughing. Both Celeste and Kian turned their attention to me.
“Do you also need your mouth sealed?” Kian asked, not hiding his displeasure.
“Firstly, where am I?” I asked Kian before averting my gaze to Celeste. “And secondly, I’m no goddess, and there’s no divine presence to be recognized. Why did you bring me here?!” I snapped, my anger leveling up as memories of my parents' deaths resurfaced. I couldn’t get it out. We had planned a lot of activities for my eighteenth birthday, which was just a month away, but now I would never get to see them again, all thanks to Kian. I swore to put a dagger in that stone-cold heart of his soon or die trying. He won’t get away with what he did, he won’t.
“Child, can’t you feel it? I’m sure you’ve always known you’re special...”
“Enough already!” Kian thundered, causing me to flinch. Of course, I was terrified of him. As much as I hated him, I was also tormented by his presence, the sound of his voice, and his aura alone, which was dark, terrifying, but somewhat alluring. “Just tell me if she’s a witch or not!” He ordered, and Celeste bobbed her head a little, like a slight bow.
“She’s not a witch, Alpha Kian, she’s the goddess of immortality.” Celeste replied, and my jaw dropped.
“Are you delusional?” I snapped at her.
“One more word from you, and I’ll cut out your tongue!” Kian’s voice echoed in the room, and I felt the hairs on my body rise, my palms were sweaty, and my heart kept racing. I bit my lower lip, silencing myself
“Alpha Kian, please, we need to let her go.”
“She’s the daughter of Ronaldo! She’s a traitor and should be killed!” Kian yelled, but Celeste didn’t flinch, unlike me, who kept shaking at the sound of his voice.
“Fine then, I’ll prove it to you.” Celeste said this and stretched her hand to Kian. He raised a brow at her, but then realized what she was asking for.
“Be careful, she might throw you off.” He warned her before handing her his dagger. My eyes widened, and I began struggling with the chains. Was she going to kill me? Didn’t she just ask Kian to let me go?
“I’m not going to hurt you, child.” Celeste said this with a faint smile, which somehow brought me comfort. She crouched down to my level, and I finally got to see her face. She had long grey hair, grey eyes, and slightly pale but smooth skin. She looked so young, and yet her voice was that of an old woman. I was so focused on her appearance that I didn’t notice her positioning the dagger on my arm. I only snapped out when I felt the excruciating pain of the dagger—she had made a clean cut on my arm.
“Aghh!” I screamed, holding my arm immediately. “Why did you do that?” I asked, my eyes tearing up from the pain, but she just smiled, like she was expecting something good. I glanced at Kian and noticed his gaze was glued to my injured arm, waiting for something to happen, just like Celeste. I frowned a bit. I could no longer feel the pain, but my clothes had already been stained with my blood. I slowly removed my hand, and a gasp escaped my lips. The wound had completely healed without a scratch!
“How? Even wolves don’t heal that fast.” Kian said, though his tone was flat, I could tell he was amazed but refused to show it.
“I told you, she’s a goddess.” Celeste replied.
“What is a goddess doing in the human realm, then?” Kian asked, taking a step closer. His cobalt blue eyes bore into mine like he was staring at my soul. I looked away immediately.
“I don’t know what you’re talking about. I’m not a goddess. I’m Elara Orion, daughter of Ronaldo and Hai Orion, and you killed my parents!” I yelled, my eyes tearing up.
“I killed traitors! You should be happy I spared your life!” Kian thundered, his eyes glowed bright gold for a split second, and I knew I had to keep my mouth shut to avoid bringing out the devil in him.
“Listen to me, Elara,” Celeste started. Everything about her was comforting—her voice, her aura. I felt safe with her close to me, but I knew she didn’t have the power to set me free. I was still at the mercy of Kian. “Those weren’t your parents. I don’t know how you got here, but you are not of this realm.” She said, but I wasn’t convinced.
“What are you talking about? What realm? I don’t know what you are, but I am not one of you!” I yelled.
“You’re right, you’re not.” Celeste said with a smile. “You’re more powerful than us. You’re Elara, the goddess of immortality.” Celeste said.
I stared at her for a while, she didn’t seem to be joking, but it didn’t make sense. My mind drifted off to what happened to my parents after they were killed—their sudden transformation. I’ve lived my life like I was on the run since my parents moved from one city to another and sometimes between countries. They would always tell me it was work-related, but now I think they were running away from Kian. I felt betrayed. I always obeyed them without question, and yet they kept such secrets from me.
“So, what if my wound can heal fast? How does that make me a goddess?” I asked, not wanting to believe so quickly.
“Your full powers will manifest on your 18th birthday. However, they will be suppressed if you’re still in the human realm by that time.” Celeste explained.
“That explains the sudden wave that threw me off.” Kian suddenly spoke up, and Celeste bobbed her head.
“It was her instinct kicking in to protect herself, but she won’t be able to do it willingly until her 18th birthday.” Celeste said.
I stared at my bloody hand, still finding it difficult to believe there was anything special about me. My parents always shielded me and never allowed me to get hurt, so I never noticed this fast-healing stuff. If what Celeste says about me is true, then everything I thought I knew had been a lie... my life has been a lie, and now I’m going to uncover the truth about it all.
