Arvel's call startled me and made me jump back. I had completely forgotten about Arvel's changes; after all, it had been a while since we had last met. It wasn't that long, come to think, but I was getting so used to his presence that I didn't know if the days went by quickly or slowly. There wasn't even time to shower, let alone start preparing something for dinner. I grabbed my car keys, ran outside, locked up, and drove off.
