After Arvel came, and I found out it was his Luna, I quickly ignored him and got up from the floor, pulling myself together. I walked back to the main hall, where there were members of my family, and went to the car without even looking back. Arvel didn't say anything to me, and I didn't risk saying a single word. I needed to think.
“These parties disgust me,” my father said through the company, snorting the next day when he heard one of our employees mention the event. “They keep making groups and discussing business and don't include me anymore.”
“You left your post, Dad, face reality. It's not as if you didn't know exactly what was said. Edmon has already told us everything,” I said, as I tidied up the pile of bureaucratic papers.
The core of the alphas was thinking of investing an absurd amount of money in schools for lycans and wolves. Studying human history rather than that of our people was becoming a problem. Although we were discreet about our wild blood, that didn't mean we were off the hook. We were allowed to change whenever we wanted and, due to evolution, the full moon no longer had any effect on us, except that we grew stronger.
“If I had been at that meeting, I would have said that this idea of education is stupid. There are many more important things to invest in than education,” my father shouted, still angry. “Look at our health plan. We're cured quickly, but we're not immortal. We can have the same comorbidities as humans,” he said, slamming the door to his living room. Although he was no longer the Supreme Alpha Avilla, he was certainly still in charge of managing our tour companies.
“Is he taking out his frustrations early?” Edmon asked as he stepped out of the elevator. As usual, he was well dressed, and even his aura already indicated his Alpha potential. He was a source of pride for the family, in any case.
“Looks like he's on the opposite side, as usual,” I replied, as I got up to walk around the building with him. “How's the search for your Luna going?” I asked. When you had a high position like that, the pressure to find your Mate was overwhelming. Of course, Edmon, taking over from our father, would have to find him soon. This made me think that Arvel, already an Alpha, probably also suffered from such social pressures. Would he tell anyone that I was his Luna? Would he have the courage to ruin the Avilla family even more?
“No, I haven't found it yet. I think the more we look, the further we get from finding it. I'm not in a hurry; it's not like I'm going to lose my post if I don't find her soon,” he said. “And honestly, with the amount of she-wolves available, it's better that it stays that way. I'd kill myself if I had a Mate with any of the Kain she-wolves,” he said, as he continued walking. I froze; I couldn't think about it. Of course, I hated knowing that my Mate was with a Kain, but that didn't mean it would be okay to tell everyone.
A few minutes later, I returned to my desk with more piles of paperwork. Ever since I'd stopped being a guide for those who hired our packages, I'd gotten involved in the bureaucracy. It seemed that no one else in the family knew how to handle contracts properly. Suddenly, the phone rang.
“Miss Avilla, there's a call for you,” my private secretary told me. Although he was human and knew everything about us, it seemed strange that he wanted to continue dealing with us. The Avilla family was very complicated, and even my mother, although different from my father, also had her faults. I permitted the transfer.
“It's already 1 pm, and you haven't called me,” the impatient voice on the other end of the line told me. I felt directly attacked. Who was bothering me at that time? Had I promised something to a client?
“Excuse me, but who is it?” I asked innocently, not knowing who it was. The way my father was in a bad mood, the last thing I needed was to have to pass on negative feedback from a client. “I can look into the system and resolve your complaints,” I said, promptly offering to help.
“It's the guy you sucked off yesterday,” he said dryly. Arvel looked furious, and I looked shaken by his audacity and charge. “You think you can do that and ignore me?” he asked me.
“I'm sorry, sir, but we don't work with that kind of service,” I replied, trying to cut off the conversation. I wanted to avoid the subject of Luna and Mate as much as possible. I wasn't ready to deal with him if it came to that. If I had known all this, I would never have gone through with what I had done yesterday.
“If you ignore me here, I'll show up at your company. I'm not the one who needs to hide a Mate here, Luna,” he said as if it were a threat. So he did know. I couldn't have been more worried.
“Did you tell anyone?” I immediately asked. ‘Arvel, did you tell them?’ I asked again, emphasizing how important this information was.
“It's not as if I didn't have a plan, Anna. Look, I indeed had a certain interest in you, but that was before. They're already putting a lot of pressure on me about my Luna, but I didn't expect it to be you. Our packs are rivals, and everyone knows that Edmon and I hate each other,” he said. There was still that; Edmon and Arvel had fought before in a few meetings. The situation couldn't be worse.
“I have nothing to say to you, Arvel. I'm sure you can find a she-wolf who will pretend to be your Luna,” I said. “It wouldn't be a problem for me.”
“Anna, you know how it works. I've thought about it; of course, I have, but I need you right now. I need to see you,” he said. His tone sounded more worried, more concerned. “Please, Anna.”
“Arvel, I'm working. Give me one good reason why I, your enemy, should go and find you. You're a Kain, and I'm an Avilla; we don't trust each other,” I said.
“Since Mate, I simply can't control my wolf anymore. It's tearing me up inside, Anna. I can't even leave the room. I'm burning up, containing him. Likewise, I know you hate me, but I can't go berserk in public. I need to calm the beast,” he said, visibly panting. I was sure that if it were possible to smell over the phone, I'd be smelling a wolf.
Furthermore, I sighed with frustration. “And what do you need to calm the wolf down?” I asked, trying to imagine how Luna and Mate worked in practice.
“I just need to f**k you,” he said. At that moment, I felt the sensation again. And again, my she-wolf responded in response. And so did my physical body…
