Kari's POV
There was a knock on my door. I didn't move from where I was sitting on the floor. Somehow I knew it was my father on the other side of the door.
"Kari." Came my father's voice. It took me everything to hold down a sob. I hear him shuffling around outside. "I am so sorry my like peppercorn."
"Pappa," I whispered.
"I wish I could bring your mother back. I wish I could change how everything happened. It broke my heart to leave you, but I can tell you, if my father had found out who she really was, he would have used her to get what he wanted. He would have made her life a living hell, and I wouldn't be surprised if he forcefully marked her. And God knows what he would have done to you." He whispered and I was sure he was crying.
