Chapter Five

1330 Words
I woke up to light blinding me, I opened my eyes and took in the destroyed room, and memories of the previous day came flooding back. Ugh, I groan as I drag myself out of bed. "So, it wasn't a dream", I mutter to myself. I feel awful, Destiny didn't deserve me snapping at her. I will need to apologise again. I let out a deep sigh and decide to start cleaning the mess I made. I just don't know where to start. Looking around, I spot a pile of glass on the floor from the mirror that was once there. A dry chuckle leaves my mouth, "Well, that's seven years bad luck". As I continue to try to fix the room as best I can, there's a quick knock on the door as it opens, followed by a drawn out whistle. "Woah, buttercup. You really did a number on the room." I look up to see Chad standing there with a glint of amusement in his eyes, eyebrows raised as he takes in the site before him. I groan as I stand, placing my hands on my hips as I look at him, "I know, I know, its bad. A wave of guilt and shame rush through me causing me to drop my head. Sucking a deep breath in, I shakily ask, "I need to see Luna Destiny." Chad snaps his eyes to mine, narrowing them slightly, his lips in a thin line, "no can do, buttercup. I've just come to check you're alright and see if you need anything. I can't take you to her, its not my place". I feel disheartened at this, and I'm not one for begging, but this is something I really need to do. "Please, Chad, I need to apologise for last night. I know its not much, but its the least I can do." He must have heard the desperation in my voice as he pinches the bridge of nose in thought. He huffs out a breath, shaking his head as he looks at me, "Alpha could have my head for this, but I'll take you". I grin at him as I run up to him, throwing my arms around his neck in a hug. "Thank you" I whisper. Surprisingly, he hugs me back and chuckles. I pull back, my hands on his shoulders, "Don't worry, ill protect you from the big bad wolf". He again chuckles. We head out of the room, him in front and I can hear some sort of hustle and bustle going on, like there's more people around. Nearing the bottom of the stairs, I can feel the dread beginning to set in. Maybe this wasn't a good idea after all. "I feel as though the jaws theme tune needs to be playing right now." I let out a little laugh, trying to calm myself, and Chad joins in. We enter the kitchen and the smell of freshly cooked food is delicious, my stomach grumbles. I notice Destiny is cooking and Asher is sitting at the far end of the island eating. He looks up at us and raises an eyebrow, directing himself to Chad, he asks in a low tone "what's she doing here?" I can't help but shudder at his voice. Its deep, husky and soothing, I could listen to him speak all day. Before Chad has a chance to reply, I quickly state, "she is standing right here". I cross my arms over my chest as I stare at his face, watching him as though he's going to pounce across the kitchen at me. "Now, honey, thats not how we treat our guests," Destiny's angelic voice cuts in as she places her hand on Asher's shoulder. He looks at his mother, before returning his gaze back to my face. The whole time Chad has remained quiet, until now as he clears his throat. I snap my eyes to him and he motions me to start talking with a flick of his wrist. I nod my head before turning back to the others opposite me. I exhale a deep breath as I begin, "I'm not here to fight, I'm here to apologise. I shouldn't have acted the way I did last night, it was out of order and you didn't deserve it. Not that its an excuse, but so much has happened these past few days and my head is all over the place. I know it won't undo what I have done, but I am truly sorry." I close my eyes once I'm done, scared to open them in case the tears I'm holding in come falling. After a few moments of silence, I open them slowly and can see a soft smile on Destinys face as she approaches me. "Oh honey, its fine. I understand its a lot to take in and that you want answers, so I'm going to give you them." "Thank you," I reply quietly with a smile. I feel relief wash over me that I'm not being ripped to shreds. Destiny takes my hand in hers and leads me towards a room I haven't seen yet. It looks like some kind of study. Its very spacious with dark red walls, brown leather couches and some wooden furniture against the walls. We sit down on one of the sofas, my hands still in hers as she takes a deep breath. "It all started a year before Asher was born. I hadn't yet met Aldrich, so neither of us had mates. He was close friends with a witch, a good witch. She had confessed her love for him a week before we met. And as intended, we are mates, as wolves are meant to have, to love, cherish and protect. The attraction between mates is strong, as it has already been destined. However, she didn't take too kindly to my presence and being rejected by Aldrich. So, she did every thing she could think of to get rid of me. When this didn't work, she cursed our first born to always be in wolf form, rather than in human form." A small smile graces her face, and eyes holding unshed tears as she squeezes my hand before continuing. "So when Asher was around 5 years old, to keep him safe, we took him to a family that we knew, your family. It was one of the hardest things we ever had to do." A stray tear leaves her eyes. I squeeze her hand, urging her to continue as I try to take in all that she's saying. "We knew your mother and father from work and explained that due to allergies, we couldn't have Asher any more. Your father thought it would be great for you to have a friend to grow up with, so he took him home to you. We kept in touch briefly. Thats when we heard you had changed his name to Storm and that you two didn't go anywhere without one another. I can't tell you what a relief that was to us, that he had someone that truly loved him. When he was 13, we were told the witch that had cursed him had died, meaning there was a possibility the curse had broken. On that night, we visited your house and out came Asher in human form. He didn't want to leave, didn't want to break your heart, but knew he had to, in order to control himself in both human and wolf form, to learn the ways of being a wolf that he had missed out on and to protect you." As Destiny finishes speaking, she looks at me with a mixture of emotions in her eyes. I don't know what to say, what to feel. I close my eyes trying to slow my thoughts, my racing heart and its then that I realise my face is wet. I touch my cheek and realise I'm crying and I hadn't realised. Storm is alive.
