Esme's heart sank when Hunter answered the call from Axel. Her breathing picked up speed to the point where she was starting to hyperventilate and she thought she was going to have a panic attack. The flames inside her dying to reveal themselves. She had to remember to focus on her emotions to stop herself erupting. Practicing her breathing techniques she had learned during training, she managed to calm herself somewhat, but not completely. Still on edge, awaiting the message from Axel, she couldn't keep still any longer and began pacing the room again. Her mind was in overdrive, thinking of the worst-case scenarios. She didn't notice Hunter hang up the phone, nor hear him call her name. A tap on the shoulder startled her, bringing her out of her morbid trance.
