She takes another sip of wine and ignores the small voice in her head that asks, Exactly who’s been judging who? When the day finally arrives, Liz decides to drive. For one thing, it’s cold and the wind is just one notch above bitter. For another thing, she’s decided to bring her latest quilt. She finished it two days ago and is still in what she and Polly call “quilty love.” She jokes to herself that she’s taking the quilt to book club because she can’t live without it, but the truth is she wants to show Sheila what she’s made. After all, Sheila inspired it with her marvelous online gallery of quilts. Working on this one, Liz realized that she had been resisting improvising because Polly was so insistent about it. She’d felt limited by Polly’s rules that masqueraded as freedom from rules
