Got thru the finals and A’s it! Yes, finally the end of the school year is almost here.
"So what are we shopping for today?"
"It's your birthday girl! Whatever would you like today? We have our nails done already, then we’ll get something to eat after shopping."
"Sounds good. What about looking at dresses for our prom night? It’s almost here."
Can't help it, every time I close my eyes I see what I saw that night. Especially the dream I had that felt so real.
"Hey, you okay? You kind of spaced out for a minute."
"Oh sorry yes I’m good."
"Don’t lie. I know you like all my life and I know when something is wrong. Want to talk about it?"
"I don’t think this is the right time to talk about it. If anyone hears what I say, they’ll think I’m crazy. It’s enough that I think I’m crazy."
"What about we get something to eat to take back home and you can tell me?"
I sighed. "Okay, but don’t be judgy."
"I promise I won’t."
"I was on my way back home last night and felt someone following and watching me. At some point, it felt like I was being chased."
"Omg! Did you at least ask Edward for a ride home?"
"I had run back to the diner but it was too late. He had already closed and was gone . By the time I got home and was settling down, I looked out the window because I felt like I was still being watched."
"Did you call the police or tell your mother?"
"No, mom was passed out drunk. That’s not the scary part. I dreamed that there was an animal in the woods always watching me. I could not tell what kind of animal but it was scary. All I saw was glowing eyes in the darkness."
"I know you're scared, but animals' eyes glow in the dark."
"I know, but his eyes were different. It would turn red, then it would turn blue."
"Weird. Maybe you watched a scary movie and fell asleep afterwards."
"I would have remembered watching a scary movie last night but I had no time for that."
"I don't know, maybe you were just stressed."
"Maybe. I need to head to work, Hanna. I'll talk to you soon."
I got ready for work and started heading that way. There is nothing to be afraid of. It was all in your head and just a crazy dream or a nightmare. Either way, I'm not going to let it ruin my night. I like to go in to work with a positive attitude to bring positive vibes my way. So far, it has been working for me, until that night, but I won't let it stop me.
It's the weekend so I know it's going to be a crazy busy night. That's the way it is on Friday nights. It gets crazy sometimes with some people trying to hit on me too. Some take it too far trying to grab my ass. If only I could punch them square in the nose. I'm not gorgeous or anything, I'm just your average girl. I think. I'm shy and short, but don't let that fool you. I'm feisty when I need to be. Even though deep down, I'm scared and shaking like a leaf in the wind. I don't let that show.
This world makes you that way. Its eat or be eaten world. If the people around here sniff that you might be weak, they would take advantage of you. I've seen plenty of that in my short life.
"Stefani, can you serve those groups of people that came in? We are swamped."
"Edward, I can't take any more people. I'm up to capacity."
"I know you can handle it, that's why I'm sending you. Besides, they look like they might tip pretty well by the way they are dressed."
I inhale deeply, not wanting to deal with guys in suits. They tend to be assholes."Sure, I got this."
"Hi, welcome to the best diner in town. I'm Stefani and I'll be your server for tonight. What can I get for you on this fine night, gentlemen?"
Deep down inside, I just want them to order something simple and leave.
"It sure is a fine night, ain't it gorgeous? Come here, get closer, don't be shy."
Here we go again. "I'm fine where I'm at. What can I get you guys to drink?"
"Get us a round of your finest beer."
The quietest one of them all spoke up, "I'll just have a glass of water." While the rest of them laughed.
"No problem, I'll be right back with your drinks."
I walked back to get their drinks and I got a cold chill down my back. Why are the cute ones the weird ones?
"Everything good?" asked Edward.
"Yes, everything is fine, they just want some drinks."
"If they bother you, let me know."
"Sure will, but it's nothing I cant handle."
I get their drinks and bring them to the table. "Is there anything else I can get you? Any food?"
"You can get me something, you." Said the talkative one of the group. He seemed cocky and confident.
"Well, you can't have me. There is nothing interesting about you that I want."
"Is that so?"
"Yes, that is so. If there is nothing else that you guys might need, I will bring you your check."
The rest of the guys at the table started laughing while one of them looked at me like he wanted to kill me, while the quiet one just sat there with a straight face like nothing faced him. Now, the talkative man is not talking and not happy. I left him speechless. Guess no one has stood up to him before.
I hand them their check and as I'm walking away he says, "You don't know who you are talking to, you need to be more careful with that slick mouth of yours."
"I'm not worried about it, your not the first asshole I have had to deal with." And with that I left them.
"Stefani, can you close tonight? I have to leave early. Can you handle it?
"Yup, no problem Edward, I got you."
I hope I don't have to go through the same thing I did the other night.
As I'm finishing up for the night, I can't stop thinking about those jerks from earlier. That quiet one, there is something about him I cant quite put my finger on. He sure is cute. Under that suit you can tell he has some muscle, and that chocolate skin of his. Square jawline, to think about it, I have never seen anyone look like that with deep blue eyes, Yum.
What am I doing? Thinking about him that way? I don't even know his name, besides he is out of my league. There is no way he would even look my way. Who says a girl can't dream?
