Chapter 44

I started to tell him about the days I was heading to Draco. Then, I told him about the incident with the elementalists where I was almost killed and whispered to him that Scarlet and Kasstin doesn’t know yet about the time I died during the slime quest so I asked him not to mention it. Afterwards, I told him about what Scarlet did and I flaunt how she is my savior and an angel sent by the heavens above. I saw Scarlet blushed upon my statements. And I am conquering my awkwardness around her which is a good thing for me. I asked Scarlet beforehand, if I could introduce her as the escaped princess to Varan and she hesitated for a long moment. She still hasn’t given me an answer so I’m still torn on how I am going to tell Varan about this party. Then, I think Kasstin was reading the situation awhile back that she started to speak right now about it. I was surprised with what she said. She nodded at me as if saying that she got this before speaking to Varan saying, “Oh, and you’re probably wondering who I am and why I’m here. It is because we formed a party with the mission to avenge for our forsaken parents, well except for Finley’s parents of course. He just wanted to join us and help us with this mission that’s been weighing heavily in our hearts. You see, Kass which is me and Scar here are best friends since we were little and our parents were killed by an unknown group of people that we are trying to hunt down until today.” She looked at me as if saying that it is my turn to speak and follow up on her revelation. “Yup, that’s what I was about to say next. I wanted to let you know Varan that as I have fulfilled my quest, I am letting you know that I am going to stick with this new set up that I am in. I am very grateful for all your help and I will visit here from time to time. I just have to fulfill a new mission to help my friends here. I hope that would be alright with you.” I said seriously. “You know I’ve got no problem with that! That makes me glad even. I won’t have to see your annoying face for a while and that is such a relief on my part.” He jested with a smirk on his face. The girls laughed and I just rolled my eyes at him. “But fooling aside, I am really glad for this whole new venture you’re up to. I have always told you to start small but this is something big and that is totally fine. I’m proud of you for taking a big risk here to help these people in need of support. You’re taking a big leap and that is so fulfilling for me as your so called master.” Varan assured with his serious, smiling face. “I appreciate it, master. I’m going to miss your catchphrases and mocking every day. I will visit you frequently so you’d have company from time to time.” I said to him. “Oh even if it sounds cheesy, I am also going to miss you, lad. And I’m supporting this party you’ve got going on right here. That is so courageous of you and I wish you well on your mission. If you ever need my help, don’t hesitate to come to me anytime.”Varan told us and we nodded and smiled at him. “So, it’s your turn. What are you going to tell me?” I asked him. “Oh, that.” He uttered before sighing deeply. “Well, I’m sorry to ruin the mood here but it’s some bad news and it’s quite bad.” He continued with a worried look on his face. “What is it?? Are you pregnant??” I kid trying to lighten his mood a bit. “Yes, and you’re the father.” He replied sarcastically and I rubbed the back of my head timidly laughing. “There are lots of killing that’s been happening in Aeredale, the town just right next to Tynewt. It’s not so far from here and it’s been going on repeatedly over the past few days. The assassins are targeting the elves there and we, demi humans are worried we might be the next target they’ll go after. We don’t know who the suspects are nor is their purpose in this agenda. We’re trying to help the elves but the killers are good in hiding themselves so it just keeps on happening. I’m sorry; it’s quite heavy news.” Varan explained. “Maybe we can help.” Scarlet suddenly spoke. Varan asked how. “The three of us can investigate while we’re here. It might help us with our own mission if ever but we’ll do it merely for the purpose of helping the people here in these towns. We also care for your safety and welfare.” Scarlet propose and Kasstin and I agreed. “I think that would be very helpful but it’s too risky. The killings they’ve claimed to see were brutal and gruesome.” “We’ll be able to handle it. Helping is what really matters.” Kasstin uttered. “We’re all in this together. We are one kingdom.” I added. Varan genuinely appreciated the gesture and thanked us many times. We then plan to go the following afternoon to the said crime site and start to investigate. Varan said that he would be coming with us so he could see for himself as well. After eating, I overheard Scarlet thanking Kasstin for keeping her identity secret. I know Scarlet has trust issues and she needs to lay low in giving trust to people since she’s been having a hard time with the consecutive events that has happened in a course of few days. She gave her trust to me and Kasstin and that was tough for her. Afternoon came and we all prepared for the investigation journey ahead. It’s fun that I got to do a sleuthing quest just like the games in my phone, although, it is also quite frightening since murders are involved and I don’t want to die again. I mean who would want to die? We started walking to Aeredale and Varan has given a weapon of some sort to each one of us as a defense tool. Though, Kasstin already has her bow and arrow with her. “It’s a sleuthing quest, guys. Keep your guards up, this will be dangerous.” Kasstin reminded as we continued walking.
