“What?? You should have told me, Lynnet. They could have come back while the kids are here and do the same thing as they did before. Even if that didn’t happen again, you know I am always worried about all of you. When I had to leave for work, all I could think of all day is if you are fine. I hate that I had to leave but I have no choice or we’ll starve.”Dudley responded.
“I am very sorry, honey. I really am.”
“That also explains why you’ve been feeling anxious these days. Please, you have to tell me things like this, alright? I am always here to protect you, okay?” Dudley said as he hugged Lynnet.
“We’re sorry that that happened to you again. We really want to help, and we already explained our mission to you. So, if you really know something, it really means a lot, it would be really helpful for us and our mission.” I said to them.
“Yes, we know. That is why, we were about to tell you. Just promise us, please, that we can really trust you and that our secret’s safe with you.” Dudley assured.
“Yes, we promise with all our hearts.”Finley and I said.
“Alright, well I might know what the dark mages are looking for in different houses. Lynnet here doesn’t know it before but after you went for that first visit you had with us, I told her when you left. I explained everything to her that day.” Dudley started.
“You see, you were telling us about all the things you found out in your own investigation. Well, I think you’re great sleuths. You see, it might not look like it, but I actually have an elfin blood. My mother was an elf and she married a full-blooded human and I was the outcome. My father’s human traits dominated, that’s why I inherited more of his. The only evident trait I got from my mother is my elfin hair, that is why, it is long, but I cut it short, so no one would ask. Lynnet here knew all of that after we got to know each other and she never really looked at me any different because she said that she loved me.” Dudley unveiled. “It is true, he’s always been great and he has a golden heart like most elves out there.” Lynnet mentioned.
“Wow, I could never have guessed that. But we agree you seem like a nice person. You all are, ever since we met you from before.” I replied.
“That is true, but how is this relevant to our question?” Finley asked.
“Yes, I will get there, I promise. First, do you by chance, upon your investigation, know the story of the forbidden book already?” he asked.
Our eyes lit up and told him that we do know already. Our hunches might actually be right. I just hope it’s not some bad revelation he’s going to tell us.
“What about it?” Finley asked.
“Okay, here it goes. My great grandmother was one of those powerful elves who conjured the forbidden spell to the dark mages. And she was the entrusted one to keep the book hidden and safe somewhere. So, she did what is expected of her and she created a spell to bury it inside the floors of our house, while making it seem like there was nothing there. Only she could actually open and find it. It was like a secret safe. Then, she passed the secret spell to grandmother, then to my mother. When I turned sixteen, my mother decided to pass it onto me and I practiced it for very long until I was able to do the spell. That’s when my mother died, and she how entrusts me to keep it safe as it’s always been. It’s really a lot of pressure on me, knowing that if I messed this up, it’d be the end of the world and it’s going to be my fault for being so reckless.” he explained.
“Ohhh, so does that mean that the book is the one they are looking for??” I asked.
“Yes, I think it is but I’m not quite sure yet because it might turn out that they might be looking for something else. But I got a strong feeling that that’s what it is especially when we found out about what happened in Aeredale. I’ve kept my identity ever since my mom died, so no one would know that I am an elf. That’s why when I married Lynnet, we lived here in Draco, where everybody seem to be all phonies. I’ve done great to be able to fit in a society I don’t really belong to, so if I went back to Aeredale, no one would really remember me and would even recognize I am an elf. I never really got to interact with other elves especially because growing up, we lived in different villages with my mom.”
“So, the book is with you right now, kept hidden in secret somewhere in this house?” Finley assured.
“Yes, that is what I am trying to say. I decided to tell you, because I know that you’ll help me protect it at all cost. If the dark mages and prince Demetrius found out about this, it’d be a total disaster and we all doesn’t want that happening. We did forged alliance as well before, so I feel safe saying this to you. They are using dirty work, invading everyone already for the grand revenge or taste of power. It has started and even got the king and prince on it. You see, they are all our enemies here and they’ve decided to come together just as the evil ones did during my great grandmother’s time.”
