“I don’t think so, lad. The passage sounds like a prophecy and prophecies like those are safely and strictly kept by the holder. We just don’t really know who actually burned them. It seems ironic if the enemies burned it themselves when it seems like the prophecy is theirs.” Varan explained.
“We should go back and talk to one of the remaining elves. They might know something about it.” Kasstin suggested in turn.
“We could do that but we should be able to hear their side without inflicting any fear to them, intentional or unintentional. They have suffered enough and are traumatized for long already. Besides, getting near to them is quite a struggle for now. They are all so, so frightened that everyone is an enemy for them. We should let them know that we are on their side and we are helping them out.” Scarlet reminded. They all agreed and tried to think their plan through.
“It’s already dark out. We should call it a day for now and go back to Aeredale tomorrow. We need to rest properly.” Varan advised to everyone.
“How about the remaining elves there?? They might get ambushed and killed tonight and we should still be there to help and protect them.” Scarlet asked with utmost concern. She wouldn’t be able to sleep knowing that some people might get killed tonight somewhere.
“Don’t worry, Scar. I took care of that already.” Kasstin responded fiercely like a badass.
“What do you mean?” Scarlet asked back.
“Well, before we left Aeredale, I left an enchanted eyeball in a corner where it could encompass a large scope of the town. I have the other eyeball here with me so we could see what is going back there and if there are potential dangers sneaking anywhere. Once, any sign of danger is seen by the eyeball, I have an enchanted mouth right here that could shout out a warning to us. They’re basically one body.” Kasstin explained.
“Woah, that is so cool and spooky.” Finley remarked then realized that he was speaking the slang word ‘cool’ again when they gave him strange looks. “I meant amazing and creepy at the same time.” he added.
“Well, thank you, Kasstin. That is quite a bold and good move you did back there.” Scarlet complimented.
“That is what we do. I trained myself to act cunningly in these types of situations. I don’t like the idea of losing good people again. Losing the only best man in my life was more than enough to break me as a person. Right now, those broken pieces are pieced together in a much stronger suit so I could prevent death for others.” Kasstin said in a serious, passionate tone.
“That makes you admirable in many ways. Salute to you and your good heart and I hope that you heal from your still grieving wounds.” Finley genuinely said to Kasstin while smiling. Kasstin looked at him with no words and without even a smile back. She’s never heard anyone complimented her like that. Scarlet, on the other hand, do appreciate Kasstin so much but she can’t help but get jealous over her whenever Finley does or says something so sweet or when he compliments her so much.

It is already past midnight and Scarlet can’t sleep as she thought she would. She keeps glancing over the eyeball to see how Aeredale is doing. So far, everything is clear and alright. Nothing perilous seems to be happening. But no matter how many times she looked at the eyeball, her worries don’t seem to vanish away. She is afraid that she might be too late again in saving her people.
Another hour passed and she still can’t manage to sleep. She then decided to take a walk outside. As she went in the main room of the store, she saw Varan smoking a tobacco in his chair while reading a book. She expected that everyone is asleep by now.
“Can’t sleep, huh?” Varan uttered. “No, I can’t. I also can’t stop worrying and stressing over this whole thing. I already lost my mom and many people in this kingdom and I just can’t bear to lose more. I want to fight for them badly and protect them at all costs.” Scarlet replied.
“Calm down and sit there for a while, princess.” Varan said to her.
“Wait, what did you just call me?” Scarlet asked, worrying that she might have revealed who she is to Varan.
“I called you princess. Why, aren’t you the princess, Scarlet?” Varan asked in a wise-like tone.
“My name is Scar, sire. I am not the princess.”
“You can stop worrying about that and stop pretending to me. Your secret is safe with me. I wouldn’t put you to any harm and that is something I really meant.” Varan said to her.
Scarlet was confused with what she should feel right now. She knows that Varan is a good being but she has surpassed all her limit to trust another person. As someone with trust issues, she surely is struggling deeply with how she’s been giving her trust to people in a matter of days consecutively. She knows that she’s done this before and that only backfired into a huge mess that the whole kingdom is now suffering from.
It’s just that, at this moment, she wasn’t so sure if she had any other choice because Varan already knows.
“Did Finley or Kasstin tell you?” she asked gloomily. Varan looked at him genuinely and told her, “No one has told me anything, in fact they seem to respect you deeply that they would do anything to protect you, especially your identity that you safeguard so, so much that no one would even see your face while you eat. That’s a hard talent by the way.” he added with a comforting chuckle.
