“You saw the book? Did you see it get torn apart and burnt?” Varan asked.
“I, along with few others, didn’t only saw it but we actually are the ones who did those things you said.” she revealed.
“Is it alright if you walk us through it?” Amos curiously asked.
“Just like Myrrh, my parents are few of the remaining elves who holds the legacy of the past because of their powers. They also told me about the forbidden book. And when the killings happened around here, some of us took our own little investigation regarding the threat our people are in. One day, we tried to stand up for ourselves and fight them. Our parents were in it too even if we tell them to stay inside where they’ll be safe. Then, at one fight, we saw one of them possesses this book that is quite extraordinary. Our parents recognized it and pointed out that it was the forbidden book which sure enough, was true. The dark mages coming here to kill are just warming up. They are the new generation of the dark mages and they are studying the book so they can rewrite their own history. They brought it with them that time to test out the spells on us. So we took the matters to our own hands and tried to destroy the book as we battle them. Our parents claims that the power in the book might have worn out that’s why we were able to destroy some parts of it. Although, one of our trusted elders also said that it might be a wrong book or it might be a fake one. So, we still are trying to figure about the book and the enemy. We already lost few of our antecedents, including my mother.” she expounded without any long pauses.
“We are very sorry for your loss.” Scarlet said to her and we followed with the same sentiments.
“Please know that we’re all in this together. We will help you bring justice to all of these. All our lives will remain at stake if we didn’t try and act on it.” Kasstin said.
“I know. The moment you walked in, I knew I could trust you, although I did sense a bad energy from one of you.” she mentioned.
‘Who could she be referring to? Is it me?’ I asked myself. I tried to scan the room but everyone seem to have good vibes in them.
“It’s probably me, I mean we just came from a fight and it really brings back these bad memories and emotions.” Kasstin uttered and I was surprised with what she said because she seem composed.
Kasstin was beside me and so to offer my sympathies, I held her hand for few seconds as I gave her a sympathy look from my face. She was stunned but she gave me an awkward smile, one that seem genuine. As I pulled away I caught a glimpse of Varan looking at wide eyed and subtly gesturing for Scarlet who seem to have just looked away from us.
“Well, I actually spoke to the other elves and we were considering if we could forge an alliance to your party. We all hold the same principles and the same battle and after this encounter I know that we are making the right decision. So, what do you say?” she asked us.
We all looked at each other as if it was understood that we all have mutual decision regarding the request.
“On behalf of this party, we all agree to be your allies and we will defeat the raging darkness that has fallen amidst our kingdom.” Scarlet said.
“Yes, and next on our agenda is to find the culprit who’s holding the real forbidden book. They must be stopped before they could use the book for the end of us all.” Amos uttered. I realized that he hasn’t talked much up until now. Then I noticed the elf seem to have squinted when Amos spoke as if she was judging him or something.
“Oh, I am Keyfina by the way, almost forgot to introduce myself.” she said to us after she looked away from Amos.
We also introduced ourselves and told a little bit about ourselves.
“Oh, it’s getting dark out. You should get going before it gets super dark.” Keyfina said to us.
“Yes, you’re right but we will come back again especially if we found a new lead on our case.” Kasstin said to her. We then headed out and went on our way to Varan’s store. As we walked, we talked about what is going to be our next move.
“We should go back and talk with the Simmons. They might also know what’s going on and they might actually be involved in this or something.” I said while looking at Scarlet but she seem aloof and is not even looking at me. Then she agreed to the plan while still looking at the ground. Everyone seem to have sensed the awkward atmosphere and so Kasstin broke it by commending everyone. She said that we are making a lot of progress in a span of few days and that we should be picturing justice on our hands. Everyone gave a faint smile except for Amos because he was wearing a mask so I don’t really know. Scarlet removes hers for a bit whenever we know for sure that no one would recognize her, or simply when no one is around.
When we got back, I tried sleeping that night wondering why Scarlet was suddenly like that.
“It’s Kasstin, you idiot.” Varan suddenly said out of nowhere. I was shocked and I actually forgot that I wasn’t in my own room and that Varan likes to stay up late in his chair while reading or something.
“You scared me! And what about Kasstin?? What are you suddenly blabbering about??” I asked him. He couldn’t possibly have read my mind, could he?
