Chapter 55

“My mom…” she started to say as she still stares at the ground. “What about your mom, can you tell us?” I asked her. “They killed her in front of our house and I saw it.” she started and tears are coming back. “I couldn’t even do anything because I froze from where I stood because of fear and I just want to pluck my eyes out to unsee every bit of that moment. But it’s all my fault! I didn’t even try to help. I am just a useless coward.”she uttered with her crying voice. I tried to comfort her in a way that I can. “You just said it, you froze at your spot due to fear and that is really not your fault. Those people shouldn’t be killing others in the first place. This is all their fault because of their heartless desires for themselves. Fear is hard to control and manage especially when you are in the moment. You cannot really just unfreeze yourself easily when you’re already enveloped with fear. You shouldn’t be too hard on yourself. You never wanted for all that to happen.” Kasstin said as a response. “We know it’s hard but we cannot really reverse it. Maybe for now, as you process all through that, try and divert your focus on what you can still do rather than what you didn’t do in the past. That’s what we can control now. What can we do to give your mother the justice that she deserves? Think of that instead.” Varan wisely imparted. “He is right. It will still be hard and the pain is still there but we have to do something now to stop whoever these villains are, so we can fight for our fallen people and to stop them from destroying more lives.” I added. She nodded at us and looked at the ground again. We gave her few minutes before we ask another question. “Do you by chance, know any reason why they could’ve killed her?”Kasstin asked. “My mother is one of the remaining descendants of the powerful healers of our kind. She is quite old now but her power remains stronger as ever. Although, her body couldn’t take it like they used to, that is why, her work is lessened so as not to lose herself in the process. She still heals anyone any chance she gets. Now, I think it’s because of that power she possesses that they killed her. The ones that has been killed were mostly part of the remaining descendants, as much as I have heard from the other elves which connects a piece of the puzzle.” she explained to us openly. “Thank you for sharing that, uhmm…” Kasstin stated. “Myrrh, it’s Myrrh Daven.” she revealed. “Thank you, Myrrh.” “Do you perhaps know any particular book, that might be special maybe, that you have been protecting for a long time or maybe straying away from for a long time, if that’s alright to ask?” I asked in a gentle voice. “I don’t know if this what you’re referring to but my mother has told me about this forbidden book ever since I was a child. According to her, ages ago, our land is full of powerful elves that reigns over most people. They are an epitome of healing and people adore them so much. Now, the dark mages are envious because the spotlight is being taken away from them no matter what they do because the elves are more powerful. Then, one day a foreign dark mage, a survivor of a war between his kingdom and the other ones, resided in the land. He joined forces with the other mages and soon they built a much stronger dark force. The dark mages here became his minions and they adore this man so much because of how much power he has given them overtime. Together, by the leadership of this foreign mage, they crafted the most evil book of all time. In it, they crafted spells that destroys any form of life. They casted prophecies that no light forces can defy. It was so powerful that millions of beings died by a flip of their book. It went on for about a year until the elves couldn’t take it anymore and so they summoned the other good elves from near and far kingdoms to join forces to save the doomed world. Their calls were fortunately heard and they soon joined together to create the biggest quest of all time. All the elves created a spell that could keep the book away from the mages in any way. How the book was crafted was out of their power that they cannot destroy it so they are taking it away from them instead. With all the powerful elves holding each other together, they conjured the spell to maximize its power efficacy and soon the book was in their hands. They sealed it, locked it and hid it away somewhere no one can find.” she told the story as if she has memorized it ever since. “Well, that kept me on the edge of my seat. I never knew elves has so much history, and quite a groundbreaking one, if I may say.” “Thank you for sharing that, Myrrh. That quite brings the case to the light.” I stated to her. “We glad you trusted us, Myrrh. We actually found torn pages of what might be the forbidden book, while we investigated the recent happenings in your village. A lot of the pages were burned and we were only able to save few torn pages that survived.” Varan explained. “Really??” she asked in disbelief. We nodded at her in confusion. “Well, actually, all of us in the village hasn’t heard of the location of the book since I was like seven years old which was a hundred years ago. I didn’t think anyone from this village might have had it and hid it away from us. We would learn about it in a way if someone did.” she said to us.
