Chapter 41

The man spoke with his shivering voice as if he was traumatized by something just now. “I saw a bunch of bodies!! I saw them! They looked like they were brutally killed by some group of people! Their body parts were pulled apart and I couldn’t bare the sight of it all! I couldn’t help but throw up on my way here!” the man confessed. “Is there anybody chasing you?? Do you happen to see who did this to them?? Where were the bodies? I’m sorry I’m bombarding you with these questions but that sounds alarming on many levels.” Varan replied. “It was in Aeredale, I just happen to pass by there to get home here. But no one is chasing me. No one was there when I saw the gruesome scene. They just happen to be all over the place when I got there and my stomach couldn’t take it so I run fast away from it.” “You know, one of my customers bought weaponry for the purpose of what was happening in Aeredale according to his statement. Maybe, this is not the first time that this happened. But who would kill the elves and why would they do that??” Varan worriedly wondered. Finley’s POV Oh, dear God, I swear my heart literally froze right now. I’m not prepared for this. Oh, and we just ate noodles! Please, don’t let her smell my breath, oh please don’t! Am I to move away right now? Or should I keep staring at her?? Kasstin saw what happened and started to tease us to each other. I don’t know if I’ll be glad at what Kasstin is doing or if I’ll be pissed off. Tucky also sees now what is happening and joined Kasstin in teasing us both. We both look like tomatoes about to burst and we looked away in synchronization. Talk about that coincidence. “I…I’m going to the washroom.” Scarlet briskly said as she scurries to the comfort room that looked like it was from ages ago. “Oh, she’s pining after you and you both can’t even take a hint.” Kasstin inferred. “Oh, stop it, she’s not. Stop teasing her; I think she’s just had a long day. Let her be, alright?” I firmly told Kasstin and Tucky. “I think he’s right, she looks overwhelmed. Well, attaboy! I know I can count on you! I knew you’d care for her.” Tucky stated. “Of course, I would, Tucky. She’d never been anything else but a sweetheart to me ever since I got here. She even saved my life. Why wouldn’t I care for her?” I softly said. “Yes, yes, I’ll stop with the teasing but know that I’ll tease you instead.” Kasstin replied. “Kasstin!!” I called out to her. “Just kidding, just kidding! Don’t worry I’ll shut up now.” She said while chuckling to herself. “Wait, I haven’t realized that it’s you, Kasstin! My old friend, how have you been?” Tucky suddenly greeted as Scarlet came out of the washroom at the same time. “Wait, you know her, Tucky?” Scarlet asked. “Yes! She has always helped me whenever I go the Swindmore market. You see, people there are very mischievous people and they would often target me with their schemes and swindling. I was even robbed once but Kasstin was always there to look out for me and so we became friends ever since. I didn’t know she was the one Finley was talking about.” Tucky gladly told us. “What a small world, isn’t buddy? Now, we’ll even get closer to each other because you are now looking at the newest member of your party!” Kasstin declared. “It really is! Oh, I’m so happy we’re growing as a party! Are you going to live here now too??” Tucky cheerfully asked. “Well I can’t for now. I have to go back to my mother every night because she’ll need me. But I’ll come here often. Would that be an acceptable set-up to you guys?” Kasstin informed. “That would be alright, Kasstin. Don’t worry about it.” Scarlet assured her. Scarlet became a little distant from me ever since she got to the washroom. I hope she’s alright. ************************************ Another day passed and when I woke up, Varan came to my mind. He might be getting worried about me because I haven’t returned yet. It might have crossed in his mind already that I probably am a dead meat again. I thought of maybe visiting him just so I could inform him of the whole new setup I am in. “Finley, your mind seem so clouded the moment you woke up.” Scarlet mentioned after eating breakfast. She might have noticed. “I’m just thinking about my master. He might be starting to get worried about me since I haven’t returned yet. I haven’t even sent any messages to pass along to him just so he could at least be informed.” I told Scarlet. Kasstin entered the dwelling right after what I said. “Morning everyone, oh what’s with the glum faces you got there?” she greeted. Scarlet explained it to Kasstin for me. “You have a master?? Oh, how I pity him! His scholar can’t even save himself from a cockroach yet.” She mocked right at me. “Shut up.” I said to her with a glare. “Oh, then why don’t we go? All of us? It could be our first quest. We might even discover some useful thing along the way. Where is this master anyway?” “He’s from Tynewt and he’s actually a demi human. He’s not really like a legit master or something. I just consider him as one.” I told them. “That’s quite interesting; you were trained by a demi-human! Now, that’s something I wouldn’t hear every day. And I guess I’m with two royalties and a half human now.” Kasstin uttered. “Hey, who you calling a half human, huh??” Tucky infuriatingly asked in an adorable way he does when he’s mad.
