Chapter 37

1090 Words
"Oh you don't get to turn the tables around on me again, mister! This is definitely a much different situation. You were in need of help that's why I did it but this girl?? What do we even know about her, she might be some kind of a fraud or something." "I know, I totally got your point. I've thought of that too, that's why I decided to ask for your consent first. But she saved my life like you did and on my way back I saw her again saving another poor fellow being cornered in the streets. She also mentioned that she does that often every chance she gets which means she probably has a helping hand like yours. Just give her a chance, Scarlet. You can even come with me to meet her." Finley pointed out. Scarlet looked at him in silence. Scarlet’s POV ‘She does seem quite a woman with how Finley describes her but am I going to risk revealing myself to someone we know nothing about except from a single encounter?’ “I know you are protecting your identity as the wanted princess but this could be a risk that could benefit us with our whole mission. She could be a fraud but she could also be a fuel to our fire which will make us even stronger. I really saw something in her, I felt that she really has a kind heart like yours aside from her skills that I commend. Now, are you willing to take that risk with me?” Finley uttered. ‘Wow, why don’t you just marry her if you badly want her.’ I said in my head with a sarcastic tone. But Finley does have a fair point. It could go either ways but that’s how most things work. There’s always two probable sides of the coin. Maybe, this woman might really be able to help us but I’m still quite torn especially because it is so hard to trust anyone anymore. In my eyes, all people could potentially be enemies and that is the sad truth. I just really saw something with Finley and my hunch tells me that I’m headed towards the right direction of trusting him. Well, maybe I’ll give this a chance and I’ll just discern it myself once I met this special woman that Finley is very fond of. “I can’t say yes to you for now but I am willing to see her myself and that’s when I’ll give you a go signal. We’ll go tomorrow morning.” I replied to him in a cold tone after a moment of thinking to myself. “Great, thank you. I won’t disappoint you.” Finley said with a faint smile. ************************************ The next day, we head off very early to Swindmore so I can meet this woman Finley is so amazed by. We chose to walk and it is awkward the whole time. There’s a tension built between Finley and I. I think it is because Finley seem to be nervous about this whole thing, like he’s about to jump on a cliff or something. “You know, it’s been a while since I got to visit Swindmore.” I spoke to break the silence. “Oh is that so? Well, I hope you remembered the tall stairway we need to climb.” Finley told me. “Oh shoot, I did forget about that. But the climb is actually worth it once you get to taste all the amazing food in their market. Tucky’s actually more enduring in walking the miles to buy food or ingredients from the Swindmore’s market.” “Then I guess you both probably know the secrets of the village.” Finley implied. “What…secrets?” I curiously asked for I have not a single clue of what he’s pertaining to. “You know…the history of the village?? The secrets of the people in it??” Finley seem to be stating the obvious when I am shocked by his connotation. “Alright Finley, does this face looks like the face of someone in the know??” I bluntly told him while pointing at my confused face. “So you really don’t know huh…” Finley said in surprise then continued, “Just promise me that you’d still want to meet this girl I’m talking about. You might be shocked with what I’m about to say to you.” “That would depend on how bad that secret your talking about is so I won’t promise anything. Come on, just tell it already.” “Swindmore is a lot like Draco.” Finley stated. “What are you talking about? Swindmore is a decent village and Draco is like the safe haven of bandits and thieves.” “Well, not exactly. See, that’s their secret. Swindmore is actually full of swindlers acting like some decent, classy commoners in a seemingly wealthy village.” “Wait what?? How would you know? You’ve only been there once.” “The girl told me and she explained everything.” “Oh of course, the girl! If that is the case then she could potentially be one of those deceivers you’re talking about considering she lives there. Why are you so caught up with this girl anyway?? Do you like her, like, like her, like her?” I confronted him on the spot. “What?? No, of course not. I just met her. I just really saw some potential in her, that’s all. That’s why I’m letting you see her first so you’d see for yourself and if you don’t then I’m not going to force anything here. She’ll even explain more about this village for you to know. If you don’t want to pursue with this then I respect that and we should just go before this grow into our first ever fight.” Finley said in all seriousness and this time he said it without any awkwardness. “I—— I’m sorry, I just really have trust issues from the past which holds me back from anything but I gave you a chance and so I will give this girl a chance.” Finley genuinely smiles at me and abruptly held my hand for assurance. It astounded me as my heart suddenly pounded louder upon his touch. He lets go after a few seconds and I can feel my cheeks flush. That was so spontaneous that it caught me off guard. What the heck is this man doing to me.
