Chapter 38

We arrived at the foot of the cliff and climbed our way towards the gates of the village. As we reached the top, I can’t help but laugh at Finley. He is out of breath from climbing the stairs and here I am not a single sweat on me. “H— how can you look like you’ve just freshly got out of the washroom w—when you literally just climbed a very tall flight of stairs??” he asked me while catching his breath. He still looks handsome as ever, to be honest. “What do you mean? It was just like a walk in the park.” I teased him before chuckling to myself. “So, do you know where we could find her?” I asked him. “About that…” “What??” “I don’t exactly know where but people know her so maybe…we could just ask?” he sheepishly told me while scratching the back of his head, with a screwed up face. I raised a brow at him and looked at him seriously. “Are you for real right now?? I thought you already knew.” I said before rolling my eyes at him and he just looked at me with his guilt ridden face and an apologetic smile. “Thank goodness we came here early so we could find your special maiden.” I told him sarcastically. “I’m really sorry, Scarlet. But her name is Kasstin, Kasstin Gardevos and I think we could spot her somewhere near the market.” I just hope we wouldn’t waste a whole day for this. We asked around multiple times around if anyone saw her but to no luck, no one has noticed her. “I’m really sorry. We shouldn’t have done this, let’s just go back, you look tired.” Finley timidly suggested. I looked at him and saw an old man far behind him at one corner of the streets being assaulted by a huge man in a decent attire. I immediately rushed to the scene without telling Finley why when an arrow came flying towards the direction of the incident. Arrows consecutively flew towards them and shockingly trapping the offender against the wall. The arrows didn’t even missed a shot and accurately pinned a huge man on the wall. So, I just stopped from where I was standing and waited for the man behind the rescue to reveal himself. I was so surprised when a beautiful, slender woman with a bow and arrow came rushing towards the old man. She said something to the offender and the man just went running away like a coward. The woman aided the old man’s wound and helped him to stand up. The old man hugged her with tears on his face and she genuinely hugged him back. She even gave him some food and water. They started to walk away while the woman was still assisting the old man. “Why did you started running?? I was worried——” Finley said as he caught up with me. I held his hand and dragged him to follow me follow the woman and the old man. “Where are we going, is something wrong??” Finley asked. “I’m interested with that woman with the old man. She just helped him and she has incredible archery skills.” “Do you mean that woman? I can’t see her face, if only she would look this way. I mean she just sounds exactly like Kasstin.” “Wait, I haven’t realized that until now. That could actually be her, let’s just follow them and see where she takes the old man.” We followed them quietly until we reached an old house by the end of the street. She took the old man into the house which seemingly belong to the old man himself. From afar, you could easily see the gratitude the man has for that woman and it’s just so heartwarming to be able to witness that. The woman came out after a very short while and Finley blissfully told me that it was in fact Kasstin, the woman he was talking about. We approached her and she was startled upon our sudden appearance. “The heck, it’s you again?? Are you following me? And you even brought someone with you.” She irritatingly said towards Finley. Wow, that’s a sudden turn of events. Interestingly, she sounds like a b***h for someone who just did what she did with that old man. “You really don’t like me, don’t you?” Finley replied to her with a smirk. “For starters, you’re annoying to some extent.” “I never even did you wrong, why are you being mean to me??” “I’m sorry, there’s just something in you that I just can’t stand.” Kasstin stated to him frankly. “Is it his awkwardness or perhaps his ignorance?” I reciprocated bluntly to her statement. “I think that’s actually what it is, you’re on point with that, and I think I’m starting to like you.” Kasstin replied as if vibing with me already. “Uhm, excuse me, I’m literally standing right here! You’re both actually ganging up on me now, huh?” Finley glumly stated. “Oh don’t be such a baby, embrace the truth! You’re actually cuter the way you already are.” I said to him with a wide grin on my face. He looks at me sulkily but I can see that he’s hiding his smile upon hearing what I said. He’s quite precious. “So, is this your girl or something?” Kasstin asked him. “Oh no, no, no, we’re just friends.” Finley awkwardly replied. His face flushes red and I can feel that mine is burning too. “Oh alright, for a moment there I thought how could you possibly have a gorgeous gal like her.” Kasstin sneers at him. “I can tell you’re beautiful by just seeing your eyes, by the way.” She turned and said to me. As always, I was wearing a mask to disguise myself from everyone. “Thank you, you are so stunning too, by the way.” I complimented back. “Ehem, still standing right here, Kasstin.” Finley called out to her picking. “Anyways, what do you want from me? It’s quite obvious that you intended to go right here for me.” Kasstin asked Finley.
