Luckily, I pointed out the right page and Scarlet demonstrated how to do it. She look so magical with the way she does it. The apple perfectly and was accurately cloned, not only into one but into five clones. It was very cool.
“Now, you try it.” She said to me with a gentle smile.
Fortunately, I can already read and talk in their language over the course of time I’ve spent here learning all about it.
I focused and tried to do what she did. I said the incantation as closely as she did and in a spoof, I made one clone. I heard Tucky laugh from across the room.
Why am I like this??
I did clone it but it was a very inaccurate, hideous clone. The clone I made looks rotten with worms swirling from inside.
Scarlet slightly snickers but the reassured me that it was fine. I was just starting after all.
“Even the best of the best messes up from time to time so don’t beat yourself up for this. That’s why you’re here to learn. You should be open to the fact that you’ll mess up every now and then.” Scarlet assured me.
She encouraged me to do it once again and the next try went pretty well. It was not as accurate but it looks decent.
“All right, you did well for that one.” Scarlet complimented.
She made me try other basic spells and I made sure to correctly pronounce the incantations. She said mispronouncing them could lead to a messed up spell, even a dangerous one. The other basic spells I tried went well the first try and I’m just glad that I’m impressing her now. I think my ego just went upscale, putting my bragging mask on. I am getting comfortable with the fact that I can easily conjure the spells she throws at my feet until…
“BOOOOOOOOOOM!!!!!!!”
Finley's POV
As I was getting good at making simple magic through incantations, Scarlet made me try a little harder spell so that I could test myself even more. She made me chant a spell from the spell book involving simple elemental magic. I have to rise a piece of the soil from underneath the house to my feet.
I started to chant the incantation confidently.
Isoflitias groli oclicien aqua efrorevar
Quaellea estquaestis epieti,
Ressiocus uintis
The wooden floors started creaking, so I got excited and expected that it worked again on my first try. Even Tucky cheered me on. With tension building up from the slow forthcoming of the spell, we were all stupefied when water came rushing through the floor and it exploded right into Scarlet's pretty face. It was a bit strong so the impact hit Scarlet real hard that she almost stumbled. The sound the water made sounded like a bomb that's just exploded.
I can't believe I just did that!! I panicked and went to Scarlet's aid immediately. Thankfully she was fine but I feel so terrible. She could have been hurt much badly and it's all my fault!
"I'm really, really, terribly, badly sorry, Scarlet!! I didn't know what went wrong! Are you sure you're okay? I'm really, really sorry! I feel real stupid!" I asked her as I assist her with my arms around her. No! I promise I'm not taking advantage of this moment to get close to her! I really, sincerely feel bad!
"It's seriously fine, Finley. I'll just go and dry up, get some new dress and it's all going to be fine. I'm not mad at you but I do like to tell you what I think went wrong back there. I forgot to tell you that when you're casting a spell, you should know the meaning behind the incantation for you to conjure it well and accurate. If you don't know the words to activate certain spells you can't achieve the desired effect. You might have misunderstood what the incantation meant or you didn't understand it at all. You might also have mispronounced a lot of words. Like for example, instead of solia, you must have misread it as aqua by the way it was written which explains the water instead of soil."
"I'll really take note of that, Scarlet. I promise. I really am sorry."
"It's really fine, Finley. Scarlet's used to magic blowing up her face and I've always been in front of the line in doing so. Now, I guess may the best man win." Tucky teasingly stated. Scarlet just laughed it off.
"Oh, Tucky! Finley, we'll have another round and see where things go." Scarlet uttered as she dried her hair with a cloth.
*************************
"Wow! You really is a fast learner! That's quite impressive." Scarlet told me, grinning with a spark on her eyes. I felt butterflies roam around the inside of my stomach. I've never felt like this before by just a compliment from someone.
"Thanks, it's because you're a great teacher." I timidly replied to her.
We just had another round of spell incantations after the horrible mistake I made. And from what she said, I can say so myself that I did a pretty, decent job. Many people has commended me before for being a fast-learner even back in my real world but hearing it from Scarlet makes my heart melt.
"I guess, we should level up the lesson already. But it's best to do that some other time. I think you're ready to go back to the quest by tomorrow. You've been doing well when it comes to thinking out of the box. When I ask you how these basic, even what others perceive as weak spells could be used in the situations I gave you, you gave pretty much strategic and wise answers that could actually work when applied in the real battlefield. I think you can handle it already. I'll just lend you the magic tome and you just have to take good care of it." Scarlet stated.
