The next day, Finley and Scarlet arrived back early in the morning. They left an enchanted eyeball in the Simmons’ home just like what they did in Aeredale so they can keep an eye to them without having to occupy a space in their small home. As the whole party sat down to eat brunch, they seem to notice a slightly hint of tension between Amos and Kasstin. Not directly between each other but they are both individually on edge especially Kasstin which is very unlikely of her.
“Ehem…” Finley called out, trying to break the tension.
“So, we found out something while we’re with the Simmons.” he continued.
“Oh, that’s great, what did you discover??” Varan asked.
“Well, if you remember the torn pages we saw, turns out they were also in the original book. They had the same content and exactly the same way it was written. It is possible that the ones we saw was just a plain, old copy of the book without the power conjured in it.” I followed up.
“So, we should still be preparing for the next full moon. They might plan something grand and evil with the help of the book, so extra safety and protection is required, specially where the book is hidden.” Amos suddenly stated.
“Does someone here knows the exact date of the next full moon?” Finley asked, clueless.
“I don’t know exactly but I read that it’s going to be weeks from now.” Varan answered.
“We have to keep moving. We cannot keep the book safe forever. We also need to do something with the enemies now. We should kick them out their positions or punish them gravely.” Finley suggested.
“We have to put a stop to them, because I think that they’ll continue with their crimes with or without the help of the book. The only problem when they got the book is that they’ll grow more strong and much more powerful. Imagine, their regular dark magic is already dangerous itself already. So, with the book it’d be ten times more power. And more power is more damage. So, I think we must now talk to every alliances forged with this party after thoroughly planning what to do with the dark side.” Scarlet proposed to the group.
“Don’t you think it’s too early to gather alliances?” Amos asked.
“We have to plan first, so I don’t think we’ll have to talk to them very soon.” Scarlet added.
Everyone agreed and quickly finishes their meals. Amos and Kasstin are still not quite themselves which leaves the rest of the party wondering what happened to the two of them.
Kasstin went to get some fresh air outside after eating and Amos thought that this was the opportunity for him to tell the rest of the party about what’s bothering him since last night. He was hesitant at first and seem nervous but he eventually has to say it before Kasstin went back in.
“This is about Kasstin last night. Now, I am not someone who jumps into conclusions but my gut is telling me hard that Kasstin is up to something here. I think she might be doing or planning something behind our backs and it worries me so I really need to tell all of you urgently.” Amos started.
“What are you talking about?? She’s been a great help to our mission? How could you possibly accuse her of something like that?” Scarlet asked.
“Yes, do you have some evidence to your claims?” Varan asked.
“Well, fortunately I have because I figured no one would believe me. Remember how Kasstin gave us those eyeballs and we can watch others from far away but we can reverse what we see in it?” Amos asked. The others nodded with their eyebrows crossed as they don’t know what to anticipate.
“I thought of using that as soon as I saw Kasstin last night. And I’m sure you have noticed tension with her this morning. I don’t exactly know why but what I am about to show you might explain something.”
Amos brought the eyeball out of his pocket and started reversing last night’s happenings. Then, he showed it to the others making sure that Kasstin wasn’t going back in yet. The scene projected from the eyeball was the scene where Amos caught Kasstin negotiating with a Creagan soldier late at night in front of the store. Everyone couldn’t believe their eyes. They started to question their trust to her, especially Scarlet who risked giving trust to a bunch of people she just gotten to know.
“Is she working with the prince behind our backs??” Scarlet asked in shock and confusion.
“I agree that this looks bad. Should we confront her about this? Maybe she has a valid reason for this?
“Finley is right. We should talk to her first before we conclude that she’s an enemy here. If she won’t tell the truth, we’ll able to spot some clues. Maybe just act normal first. We shouldn’t be rushing into things.” Varan suggested.
“I’m sorry about all this fuss, everyone. I also didn’t expect something like this to happen. But I wish that I was wrong about this. We cannot afford another enemy.” Amos said.
With a tense atmosphere, they waited for Kasstin to enter the store. They were all nervous of what to expect. There has been a lot of progress in their mission already and if Kasstin turns out to be a mole, then it might pull them back down.
Finally, after what seem like forever, Kasstin enters the room. When she glance at the rest sitting uncomfortably in their chairs, all of them seemingly on edge, she felt weird.
“Hmm, what’s going on here? You’re all being weird.” she stated to them.
“We all need to talk to you.” Varan said to her.
“Okay? What’s up? Is there a problem in our mission? Is there a really bad news?” she asked them.
“It’s about you, actually.” Finley said in a soft voice.
