Chapter 28

"There, just go knock on the door and make sure he sees the bracelet you're wearing." Raha said directly at me. She's avoiding eye contact with Scarlet again. She's not even glancing a bit. "Raha, are you still mad at me for what I said to you the last time?" I heard Scarlet very softly spoke to Raha as I knock on the door. The door opened immediately. "Oh, I have been waiting for you for days! I was worried you didn't make it!" the man instantly greeted, dragging me inside of his home. He kept talking and I just wanted him to let the ladies in and so I nagged him politely. "Girls, you may come in, he said to me." I told the two ladies, easing the tension that built up between them while I was inside for a few minutes. "Oh why did it took you more than a week to get here?" the man said. "How you doing, chief?" Raha casually greeted. They seem to know each other. "Raha! What a surprise! I didn't expect you here, do you know these people?" the chief asked her. "Only her, chief, she's a friend and he's her friend, I think." Raha responded. Good thing she still calls her, her friend despite the misunderstanding going on between them. "Well, chief, I got into some trouble the past couple days so I wasn't able to reach your house in time." I uttered. "Oh no, did those thugs tried to hurt you??" the chief asked. "If you were talking about those big, hefty men trying to steal the potion then yes, yes they were." "I'm so sorry, lad! I hope they didn't hurt you that much." "An angel was sent before me, so I could live." I said to him, glancing a look in Scarlet's direction with a slight grin in my face. "That's really good to hear! And by the way, where is the potion at?" "It's right in here, chief. Just wait for a moment." I said to him, while getting the wooden box that secured the potion I was supposed to give days ago. "Really nice job protecting this. This a fragile and rare type of potion, so it's kind of an important one. You really did well for this quest. You just wait for the bounty you deserve for this quest." The village chief announced, while walking away from us. After a while, he came back, holding a pouch on his hands. It might be the bounty and it looks quite heavy. "Here, boy. This is your bounty for this quest. Take it." The chief declared. "Wow, thank you sir, but it's a lot than I thought it would be. Am I getting all of it?" I asked him. "Yes, why not? This quest is not that easy considering you have a very fragile, special and rare element to deliver to us. Most adventurers like you wouldn't have made it here. So, you deserve this amount of coinage, pal. Just take it, there's no worries even if you got here later than expected." "Thank you so much, chief. This is a really generous amount and thanks for the opportunity of me taking up the quest." "Oh no problem, lad. Varan must have trained you well. So, where are you and your friends headed now?" "We'll go back home for now to rest." "Oh alright, be careful on your way back or you those elephants might bother you again."He warned us then he started eyeing Scarlet with his eyes squinted. Fortunately, Scarlet's face is covered. "Oh, we haven't greeted each other, dear. Your hair reminds me of someone. I can already sense that you have a beautiful face underneath that mask." He said, grabbing Scarlet's hand, leaving a kiss on it. "Oh, greetings, chief, I'm S---- Tartlet, my name is Tartlet. He's my friend and I just saw him from the market awhile back, so I came with him if you don't mind. Nice to meet you." Scarlet said, deepening her voice a little. "That's some strange and yet interesting name...Tartlet. And yes, I don't mind at all." "Uhm...thanks? Oh by the way, chief, we wanted to ask you something too." Scarlet started, and the chief asked what it is. "Has those elephants that you were talking about did any trouble to Draco, maybe five to like a week ago perhaps??" Scarlet asked curiously. Scarlet's POV "Oh unfortunately they did. They did burden this kind family from the east side of town just four days ago! I have ordered the watchmen to keep an eye for them because they might do it again to some other families or individuals! But I think even my watchmen wouldn't be able to win against them. They're so powerful, I'm telling you!" the village chief replied. "They really are! I thought it was the end of me when they showed up on my way here!" Finley brought up. "That family didn't deserved the trouble they did to them." Raha suddenly spoke. "They really didn't! The Simmons are one of the most generous and kind family in this village and in no way do they deserve any hate or distress. I already reached out to them but they are still grieving their loss." The chief added. "Someone died??" I asked immediately. Why do they always have the urge to hurt people?? This family might not even have done anything wrong to them! It actually just makes me so furious over them! "Sadly yes, someone close to their heart has died. Anyways, you should head out already before it gets dark. It's dangerous out there for a bunch of kids like you." The chief replied. "Ah yes, chief, we'll get going now. Thank you again for this." Finley said, lifting the pouch of coinage in his hands. "Oh of course, it's a pleasure to meet you, chief. Thank you for taking care of our village." I said to him in the realest way I can. The chief's nice, I guess, but there's something odd about him that I just can't figure out. "Bye chief, I'll see you around!" Raha greeted him casually as if they are close or something.
