6. Whatever You Want

They pull up to the diner and Jay hops out and helps Kayla down. "I don't know about you but I'm dying for a burger and chocolate milkshake" he says which makes Kayla grin.

"Milkshake for breakfast!? No way!!!" She says giggling as she bounces up and down. Her grandparents had gotten out and were watching with a smile.

"You just created a monster she'll want one EVERY DAY" her grandma said in a joking tone. She knew Jay was trying to make up for not having her parents and wanted her to have every comfort she could get.

"No more of a monster than me, I come here AT LEAST twice a week and I ALWAYS get a chocolate shake topped with Oreo crumbles, and it's USUALLY breakfast." He said.

Kayla was grinning and bouncing as they walked in. If it weren't for the sunken circles under her eyes you wouldn't have been able to tell she'd been living in the wild for a year.

"Well Hi there, Who's this cutie?" The waitress says after they've been seated. Kayla giggles and Jay chuckles.

"Eli, this is Kayla, Kayla this is my little sister Eliza but we all call her Eli." Jay says with a smile. "And of course Eli you remember Jason and Melody, they flew down here to see Kayla and make sure she's alright".

Eliza's eyes widen "Kayla as in the same Kayla we've been trying to find for a year?!" Her voice shows shock but her face shows uncontrollable excitement. "I'm so glad you're okay! Carsen has become my best friend since we took Moonstone in, he doesn't sleep, he barely eats without food being shoved at him. He's been worried sick about you and your family" she gushes without meaning to.

Kayla starts with a smile but by the end she looks defeated "I'm glad Carsen got a good best friend he needs it with Mama and Daddy still missing". She says.

Eliza frowns "I'm sorry they're missing, but we're gonna find them one way or another so don't you worry." She says which makes Kayla smile. She looks over to her brother who's giving her a look. "So, bacon cheese burger and a chocolate shake with Oreo crumbles as usual?" She says.

"You know it." He says with a chuckle then looks down to Kayla scouring the menu "see something you want?" He asks her.

"There's just a basic cheese burger in the kids stuff, it doesn't have all the toppings" she says with a frown.

"You just tell me what all you want on it and I'll let Cam know." Eliza says with a smile.

"They've got you AND Cam working today? There some sort of scheduling disaster?" Jay asks.

"Abby's here too we're down 3 servers, 2 cooks and a manager we're the only 3 crazy enough to run the joint short staffed on a Saturday morning," she says with a laugh.

Kayla giggles "all these tables and people with only 3 of you?! That's impressive." She says she'd been listening by debating her toppings and checking the extra toppings on the big menu "I think I know what I want now" she says Eliza holds her own ready to write it down. "I want a cheeseburger with Swiss cheese mushrooms with the mushroom swiss sauce, bacon, caramelized onions, lettuce, tomato, mayonnaise, ketchup and mustard. Then for the side the hash brown casserole." She says.

Eliza writes it all down with a grin "You like your burger the same way I do, it's not on the menu but everyone around here calls it the Eli Special. Just like the chocolate shake with Oreo crumbles is the Alpha Special. We're the 3rd generation obsessed with it" she says with a laugh.

Kayla giggles "I want one of those too!" She says. Her grandparents laugh and make their order and Eliza heads towards the kitchen.

"You just fit right in don't you" her grandma says her smile is too big to hide.

"Everyone I've met is really nice. I like it. I just wish mama and daddy were here too" she says tearing up.

"I wish they were here too, hopefully they WILL be soon. I'm gonna do whatever it takes to find them, you shouldn't have to go through life without them" Jay said Kayla smiled sadly and hugged him tight.

"I know you'll find them eventually. It's just….it's gonna take time to adapt. This is the longest I've been away from them." She says. Her grandparents watch at first before they chime in.

"When they're found, they're gonna see just how much Jay has searched for all of you, so that you can have your family. They're gonna be sad they missed things, but they'll be happy to know you have people to depend on right now." her grandfather said. Jay was surprised but happy to hear that.

"And you'll always have support. No matter where you go" Jay adds.
