Chapter 15: The kiss

Melinda's Pov I had barely recovered from the shock when the doorbell rang. I got off the bed to see who it was. I know it's definitely not Anna. She didn't need to ring the doorbell in her own house. Maybe she ordered something, I thought making my way towards the door. Opening the door I came face to face with a delivery man. Just as I thought. “Miss Melinda?” He read out the name from his notepad. I stared at him in surprise. “Sign this ma'am.” He stretched his log book to me. I collected it and signed, he than opened his cart and brought out a large box. I'm pretty sure that was the only thing it contained because of how big it is. “Who is the sender?” I asked collecting the box. He shrugged and hopped on his bike. He rode off. The actual f**k! I went back inside, once inside I began to unbox it. At least there'll be a note in it. I was also curious to see what was in it. The first thing I saw in the box was a silver heel, it looked so refined and sparkly. Must have cost a fortune. Then I saw the dress. Oh my God! The gown is damn gorgeous. It was a black dress with a low V cut and a slit by the side of the dress. Who could've sent it? Then my eyes caught another box. I brought it out and opened it. It was a set of silver jewelry. Turning the box, there was a note stuck on it. “Wear these tonight, see you soon Doctor Mel.” Theodore sent it ? I don't believe his c**k and bull story about him doing this because I'm his personal doctor. And we're talking about that tonight. My phone rang beside me. Dropping the box of jewelry, I checked the caller ID to see who it was. It was a strange number. Weird. I declined the call and dropped my phone. Maybe the person made a mistake. Turning back to pick the jewelry again, my phone rang for the second time. It was the same number. I picked it up. “Hello.” I said to the speaker. “Why are you with him Linda?” Clark's voice sounded. So it's him… He really has a lot of lines, “It is none of your business.” I snapped coldly. I knew he was talking about Theodore. “It is my business Linda, how could you do this to me.” His voice shook. “You're forgetting something Clark, we've broken up. Stay away from me!” “You're with him to get back at me right? He's also using you to get back at me. He doesn't love you.” He said. I ended the call angrily. He is always ruining good moods. How did I date someone this foolish for three years? I went to the bathroom to have my bath. Theodore's driver would be here any minute from now. Just as I finished putting on my dress, Anna returned to the house. “Linda Linda…” Her excited voice rang from the living room. I laughed trying to hook my necklace together. She opened my door. Her eyes went wide immediately she saw me. “Sweet baby Jesus! Who is this sweet lady?” She covered her mouth. “I'm going out for a dinner.” I said “With who?” She asked. “Theodore, I'm going as his doctor.” I said. I knew it sounds absurd. It sounds weird to me too. “Do you believe that yourself?” She laughed. “It's nothing at all, don't read meaning to it.” I said grabbing my silver purse. “I hear you.” She laughed. “But there's no way in hell I'm letting you go like that.” She shoved me back to my seat. “Why? I'm done dressing up.” I asked wide eyed. “Your face is bare. Be a good girl and let me do my thing.” She said bringing out my untouched makeup box. I only used them when I was dating Clark, I had purchased new ones before the wedding. I let her apply the makeup on my face. After 30 minutes, the doorbell rang. Anna's eyes sparkled. “Our prince charming is here.” She pulled me up after putting the setting spray on the makeup. I was wowed when I saw my face in the mirror. “Go show them your figure and face they can die for!” Anna hyped. I walked out of the house slowly. The driver opened the car door and I entered. “You look…different.” Theodore said. “Thank you, you don't look bad.” I said. “What's with the gifts anyway? This whole thing is weird if you ask me.” I faced him. He looked extraordinarily hot. “I won't ask you then.” He replied sarcastically. This man and sarcasm. Soon enough we got to the venue, reporters were not present. “It's a private dinner.” Theodore said as if reading my thoughts. We stepped out of the car and headed straight to the lounge. A waitress led us to the gathering. We entered and all eyes turned to us, I was about tearing my gaze away from them when my eyes caught someone. Clark. I looked at Theodore, he only flashed a smile at me. What was he doing? Why did he bring me here of all places. Knowing Clark and his team would be there tonight. “Do you want me to die of embarrassment?” I whispered to him. He was about to reply when I saw another familiar figure beside Clark. Winifred. Her face was contorted with rage, Clark's eyes was glued to me, he looked like he could pick up a fight. “Why standing? Come join us.” James beckoned to us. I gave a slight smile and we made our way to the table. Soon we were serves, I couldn't eat properly, my appetite had flown through the window. “Why are you not eating?” Theodore asked. “You knew they'll be here.” I whispered our faces close. He didn't say anything, he only smiled. I looked up, my eyes found them again, Clark and Winfred. They were acting all lovey dovey without shame. “You might kill them with that eyes spitfire.” Theodore whispered. His breathe fanning my neck, my body felt hot somehow. At the corner of my eyes, Clark pecked Winifred on the lips. A sudden rush of adrenaline and anger surged through me. With Theodore's face close to mine, I smashed my lips on his. The hall went silent.
