*Chapter 2: New School, New Problem*
One week later.
Mara stood in front of her mother.
She was fully dressed in her purple uniform.
Black host ,black boots, purple plaited skirt, black shirt, black jacket, purple bow, black socks, and black wrist watch which were considered compulsory for every student in the school.
But she preferred wearing host, all because of her mom.
"Mom, students in this school don’t wear host. Why me?" she asked.
Her mom was weaving her long purple hair into two halves.
"That is why you are special," Mrs. Kaima replied.
Mara rolled her eyes.
"You are not going to school to wear short skirts.
Or maybe I will sow a long skirt for you personally."
"Mom, it’s not a problem at all," said Mrs. Kaima.
"Mom?"
"Yes dear?"
"Could you stop preaching?" Mara cut in as her mom finished.
Her mom fixed black earrings on her. It made Mara look so, so beautiful. Her mother admired her.
"You are the mom. I’ve heard you say this countless times.
Let’s go to school," Mara interrupted again.
"Are you with your lunch box and water can?" Mrs. Kaima asked.
Mara was confused.
"Huh? Lunch box in high school, class 3?
Mom, that’s too weird. Are you sending me to a fashion parade?"
Mara stamped her feet.
"I will report you to dad," she said, then went for her purple lunch box and purple water can.
"Mom, this is too heavy.
Fruit and food are inside there, along with your snacks.
Let no boy ask you for a treat.
My eyes are on you."
"Mom, there is no 'boy' here.
This is Korea.
I don’t believe in kdrama" said Mara
"If you are falling, fall.
If you are crossing the road, don’t look left and right.
Wait for someone to save you from a car accident."
"Mom, I’ve heard you," she said angrily. Her mom was talking too much.
"Let’s go."
Mara picked up her black backpack and followed her mom.
They approached the compound.
"What type of car will you like to take to school today?" her mom asked.
Mara looked at the fleet of cars.
"Mom, the black G-Wagon."
Her mom turned to one of the drivers.
"Take Mara to school. And not even a single scratch should be on her."
"Yes ma’am."
Mara got to school.
When Young came to carry her bag, she refused.
"No, sir Young.
You have done enough.
I’m still too young," she said and got into the back seat.
Kaima waved to her, but she didn’t want to go to that school.
So she acted as if she didn’t see her mother wave.
Many of you have wondered why my hair is purple.
My mom is a purple fan.
She really wanted to invest it in me.
Even dyeing my hair permanently to purple.
"Mom, my best color is not purple.
What if people ask me?" Mara remembered asking a week ago.
"Tell them your best color is purple.
If the stupid people ask why, tell them because your mother said so."
Mara remembered and smiled a bit.
Her mom was annoying, but also fun.
Especially when she was using her bad mouth.
The school she was heading to was the richest school in Seoul, South Korea.
Meant for high-class elites, including celebrities’ children.
Mara wasn’t scared.
Her parents were bastardly wealthy, even if they didn’t reach some people.
Her mom was a top designer for actresses, actors, K-pop idols, models, and the rest.
Her father was an actor before he stopped. Now he was CEO and brand ambassador for 3 clothing brands.
The best in Thailand.
He also owned a plane.
As far as Mara was born, money had never been a problem.
She knew she was beautiful, fair, and slim. No one could say anything to her.
She knew how to handle her problems.
At the school gate, the bar lowered.
"Miss, take care," the driver said.
She replied and looked around.
She saw how drivers dropped other students in expensive cars.
"Hm. I wonder how today will actually be. My heart... my hands are already shaking," she muttered.
A teacher came and interrupted.
"Hey Mara, follow me."
Mara was shocked the teacher knew her name.
She followed calmly.
Just as they were about to enter class, Mara stopped.
"Miss, please can I ask for a favor?"
"Yes, sure."
"I don’t want to introduce myself in class today."
The teacher was surprised.
"Are you feeling timid?"
"No ma’am. But I think staying on my own will be better."
"Then you must not cause quarrel, okay?"
"Yes ma’am. We promise."
"Alright Mara, you can go in."
The teacher left.
Mara breathed heavily and entered.
All eyes were on her but she didn’t care.
She went straight to the second-to-last row.
Her deskmate was a girl.
All eyes were fixed on her.
The back seats were empty.
She seemed arrogant, but so beautiful.
She kept her school bag, lunch box, and water can beside her and rested her head on the locker.
In every class there’s always: the jealous, the kind, the emotional, the wicked, and the betrayers.
Her deskmate tried touching her hair.
All eyes were on her.
News went round the whole school: a new student.
A half-cast.
Some girls hated how everyone wanted to see this new girl.
Especially when the news reached Lee Jong-Yung.
The wealthiest boy in school and his friends.
Son of former K-pop idol Romi Te Yong of Purple Red Girls Group.
Owner of different estates.
CEO of Tayres Company.
Ambassador for different clothing brands.
His mom was now a soloist after her group disbanded by FR Entertainment.
His dad was also a soloist, known by up to two billion fans worldwide.
He’d won up to 55 awards for best actor, singer, and model of the year.
Their network: up to 2 billion dollars.
His mom: 3 to 4 billion dollars.
His mom was among the shareholders and board of the school.
But the school was strict and upright. You could still be disciplined.
After Lee Jong-Yung and his four friends, they were the next wealthiest in class.
Everyone worshipped them like gods.
"A new girl is at school," some girls said.
That was when Lee Jong-Yung and his friends heard it.
The class was noisy as everyone discussed Mara.
She just lowered her head.
Her deskmate tapped her. She looked up.
All eyes were on her.
"She’s so beautiful," some boys said.
"Is this how half Africans look like?"
"Hey, it’s me that’s calling you," said Hyop Ryae-Sou.
Her father was a movie director. Her mom, a robotic engineer.
So wealthy.
Long hair. Quiet. Tall, slim, and pretty.
Mara looked at her.
"You are so beautiful," the girl said.
Mara only nodded, not interested.
"Can I touch your hair?"
"Ehm, my name is Hyop Ryae-Sou but you can call me Ryae" she said.
Mara nodded.
"Don’t just nod. We are deskmates, okay? So what’s your name?" she asked.
The class prefect stood up and walked to Mara.
"Did you miss your way before entering this class?
Why didn’t you introduce yourself?
Or are you thinking you are Miss Beauty?"
Ryae turned.
"Pinky, that’s enough. She’s a new student. Treat her like one."
"I was never talking to you, Raye," Pinky snapped.
Mara just examined the prefect, saying nothing.
"Are you a noob?" Pinky asked in English.
That was when Mara decided she wouldn’t talk to anyone for a long time.
So the school would think she doesn’t talk.
Mara smiled and nodded.
"So annoying," Pinky said and went back to her seat.
Mara looked at Ryae, who still expected her name.
She brought out a book and wrote:
"Ryae, I am Hueng Mara."
She passed it to Ryae.
Raye replied:
"Okay, you are welcome. I think I like you. Feel free.
There’s a lot of competition in this school, aside from girls chasing the heartthrobs:
Lee Jong-Yung, Sook-bin also called June, Hun Ju-seol, Jueon Hyong, and SongJon-You
Everyone may not like you but u admire you, because you’re so beautiful.
Where are you from?"
She passed it back. Mara picked it up, uninterested.
Mara was bad at making friends.
She read and replied:
"Hey, we are only deskmates and not friends.
I’m only telling you my name because I thought twice.
Let’s mind our business.
Where I’m from doesn’t concern you.
And please stop defending. I didn’t beg anyone.
Whoever wants to make noise should go ahead.
Thanks for everything. I want to rest."
Mara passed the letter and drank from her purple water can.
Raye read it. Her mood changed.
She glared at Mara, whose head was already on the desk.
"Huh, she’s so arrogant," Ryae thought.
Her two friends, Hun Yeong-Jun and Hun Yeong-Ji which are identical twins, signaled her out.
Ryae stood and left. The three went to a corner.
"Who is she? Did she tell you her name?" the twins asked together.
Ryae was still angry.
"She’s so arrogant. I mean very arrogant."
"Huh?" the twins asked together.
"Yeah."
Yeong-Ji and Yeong-Jun peeped into class to look at Mara.
"Hm," they said.
"But I think only she can challenge Lee Jong-Yung and his friends.
She’s totally different from every other girl here.
She looks like someone who can never be bullied," said Ryae-Sou.
"Hm, she’s so pretty. I love her hair," one girl said.
"And you guys, she has the same hair color as Lee Jong-Yung," said another.
Raye’s eyes widened.
"She’s right."
"Exactly. But Lee Jong-Yung’s is darker purple.
Hers is light dark purple," said Raye.
"Hm, what is 'light dark,' Raye?"
"You don’t know what you’re saying," the girls joked.
"I bet she’ll see Lee Jong-Yung and fall for him.
Or one of his friends," said another girl.
The girls peeped and saw Mara roll down her sleeves.
Some boys secretly peeped at her.
"Hm, Mara may win 'Most Beautiful Girl' this year.
Look how boys are peeping.
I like her, but I don’t like that she’s so arrogant," said Raye.
Then everyone’s phone beeped.
_"It’s time for class. Bring out your laptop and turn to Mathematics for self-study.
You have two hours. After that, a review test will be given."_
Everyone rushed to bring out laptops.
The class went quiet as everyone studied, including Ryae.
It was a must.
But Mara was unbothered, purple headset around her neck, listening to music.
Ryae glanced at her, surprised.
"She’s so unbothered, huh?"
"Mara, the passing rate here is very low and
It’s so hard to make an A.
Even the most intelligent student hardly makes an A.
And you can’t bribe the school authority, even if you’re the president’s daughter," Ryae whispered.
Mara didn’t look at her. She kept pressing her phone.
The school hadn’t given her a laptop yet, so she didn’t care.
Mara smiled at what she saw on her phone.
All eyes were on her.
Everyone was shocked.
"Who is that girl?"
"I don’t know, but she’s the weirdest girl I’ve ever seen," Pinky said to her deskmate.
Nobody concentrated anymore.
All eyes were fixed on the female heartthrob of the school....... HUENG MARA.
