CHAPTER:- 9

2003 Words
Aahan's Pov Time passed so soon. Or should I say, it flew away in a blink of a second. The most illogical fact about time is, it seems longer, when you want it to pass away and it seems to be short when you want it to stay. Yeah, there was no logic in the above sentence, because I mentioned it to be an illogical fact earlier. And why it's a fact? Simple... We all have felt it. In short, time is the epitome of stubbornness, just like the girl sitting in front of me. A few minutes ago, she was glaring me for offering her a pie of pizza. Because according to her, she was not a human but a super woman, who was not hungry even after working five hours constantly. While I was famished, after attending just one interview of twenty minutes. Alright, I am a special case, who needs food like oxygen. But that doesn't mean a normal human can work without a proper meal for five hours straight. And here this girl was full just having a piece of sandwich. Well, if she was stubborn, then I was no less. I made sure, she will take my treat. I don't know why but I love to annoy her. Yes, that's so bad of me! Stuffing the pizza forcefully in her hand, I snatched the sandwich from her hand. It was unwrapped. I started to examine it from various sides and angles. "Is there anything special in this sandwich that provide you any special energy to annoy people with your stupid lectures?" I asked unknowningly, earning a glare from her. I saw the pizza on her hand, that she was about to drop. No... No... It was my treat and I made an apologetic face, mouthing a sorry. "Come on... Eat fast. Then I will examine your secret power provider sandwich." I murmured. "You are saying something?" She asked, narrowing her eyes towards me. "No. Not at all. Are you hearing anything? Don't tell me you have the hidden power of talking to a ghost. I mean, I agree that you look like one of them, still they could smell your flesh and stay away from you, right?" I blabbered, making an innocent face. She made a confused face, not understanding my blabberings and finally said, "Your presence is unbearable in this room." "Then finish your pizza fast, I will move out." I replied showing my thirty two teeth at an instant. She murmured something under her breath and took the first bite. Now that she started to eat the pizza, you could notice her expression. Damn, this girl was famished too. So there was nothing special in this sandwich. I thought sadly and then glanced another look towards the sandwich. So if it's normal, then there is no problem for it to be a part of digestion. And the next moment, I started chewing the sandwich. Ishita again glared at me. I looked at her and said, "I offered you a pizza, and you can't give me your sandwich!" "Did I ask you to offer me a pizza?" She retorted. "So now you will argue for a piece of sandwich, you heartless woman!" I said, taking another big bite of sandwich. This woman is not trust worthy, she can snatch her sandwich too. While Ishita glanced towards me for another few seconds. I felt her gaze but remain unaffected. "Let me finish the sandwich fast, then we will argue over your pizza." I replied and continued eating. The sandwich was really tasty. I thought to ask her whether she made it or brought from somewhere. To my surprise she was busy in eating. So without poking the angry lioness unnecessarily, I decided to save the question for later. And then I engaged her in other conversations, so that she will finish the whole pizza, without picking another topic to fight with me. With Ishita, there was no feel of boredom though it was only me who talked. She only participated in a conversation. I told her about Ritik, Kamal and our adventurous life. She heard, sometimes laughed and most of the time only smiled. At that moment there was longing in her eyes. I could see the void in her eyes. There was something that was making her so reserved. And she was not ready to share about it. "So tell me something about yourself." I asked the girl sitting in front of me. She was eating the pizza slice, time to time licking her lips. And if I wouldn't have forced her, she would have suppressed her hunger with a piece of sandwich only. "What about myself? And why should I tell you?" She asked, sorry declared that she won't say anything. This girl and her every answer meant another fight. "Because you asked the same questions today morning and I answered." I mentally patted myself for coming with such an awesome reply. "Well, I asked and you answered, because I paid to take your interview and you attend interview to be paid." She nonchalantly replied before taking another bite of pizza. Wow! I meant just wow. She had a pack of comebacks that could left me speechless for an hour or two. "You have a point here." I accepted my defeat. "I have logic too." She replied, shrugging her shoulder. Arrogance, you see! "Alright you are the queen of intelligence, now happy?" I asked sarcastically. "Very much." She replied with a tight lipped smile. "Ok. So I think you should leave now." She said taking the last bite. "How mean!" I chided and stood up. "Whatever!" She muttered. I stood up and about to go, when I remembered something. Scratching my nape, I said, "This treat was not only for me grabbing the job here." She looked up from the computer screen in confusion. "I mean, yeah, I am happy. I got the job. So I give a treat in canteen. But for you, it's different." I said in a go and looked at her to listening keenly. Come on, Aahan. You can do it. Motivating myself, I said, "I am sorry." And her expression changed to a confused one. "Sorry for what?" She asked. "In the morning at lift, I was rude. Your appearance has no problem, the fault was in my mind. I was ignored by you and maybe it affected my ego. Or maybe it was your aura, that make you stand out in the crowd and I had nothing to initiate a conversation with you. And you are also rude to me. So I said about you being old fashioned. But, I swear, I didn't mean that. I just have nothing to say at that moment and I wanted to say something. Yeah, I am messing it up now too. I am sorry." I blabbered, whatever came from my heart. "I am Ishita. A girl with too much ambitions. I am socially awkward and I don't like to mingle with people. You can find me as a rude and arrogant girl too." I stopped there, listening to here. "I don't like to talk about myself too." She added. "But you are talking just now." I reminded her. "Maybe because you are an exception." She forwarded her hands and said, "Friends?" I looked at her for a minute and then again shook my hand with hers. I couldn't say friend as I felt something different for the first time. It was not a simple handshake. It felt as if those hands were made to be fit on mine. However I ignored the feelings. "See you later, then." I said. "Yeah. Take care." She said and I came out. "Hey, Aahan!" I saw Riya calling me out. I walked towards her and said, "Yes." "Congratulations." She cheerfully said, forwarding her hand. "Oh, yeah. Thank you. By the way, you didn't come to canteen. I was the host of today's party." I said making a sad face. "We worked at reception, young man. We can't leave the desk for some childish celebration." The old man at her side replied, scrunching his nose. "Okay, No problem, Old man. I just missed Riya's smile and your grumpy face too." I said with a tight lipped smile. His expression changed into a furious one. Before he would have burst out, I hurriedly shouted, "See you tomorrow, Riya. Bye... to you too, grumpy uncle." And I ran out without hearing the the curses that were thrown at me. I waited at the bus stop and dialled Ritik's number. "Hey man, I am freezing in this cold. Come on, take me from here." I dramatically said as soon as he picked the call. "Oh, My boy. Why don't you heat yourself on the gas stove of your office's canteen?" I heard a sarcastic remark. It was definitely not Ritik. "Kamal! What are you doing with Ritik's phone?" I asked in confusion. "That's not the question. But my answer is already prepared. So hear me out. Ritik can't pick you up because he is busy here in office. Now do a favor to yourself and come back by any public transport. Thanks for calling us. Have a nice day." He mimicked the last line, faking a call centre girl's voice. "i***t, Stupid, Donkey, Monkey!" I cursed looking at my phone. That Kamal was doing drama. I was sure that I heard Ritik's faint whispers from the other side. So yeah, they are planning something. Maybe a surprise for my first job. How lucky I am. Like an excited monkey, I almost jumped on the road to stop a taxi. "Have you gone mad? Don't you get another taxi to get killed? Useless youngsters!" The driver uncle shouted. I grinned at him and said, "I got the job. Let's go. My friends are planning surprise for me." He looked at me from head to toe. "Sit." "Thank you." I replied before sitting inside. The car engine started and soon we were on the main road. All the while I kept blabbering about how good my friends are. The taxi driver who had no idea about who my friends are, increased the volume of the music. But that didn't stop me from showing my enthusiasm. "Alright, boy. I understood, your friends are good. Now please, go out. Your destination has arrived." He said, stopping the car in front of our building. I jumped out of the car and paid his rent. I was about to enter into our building, when my steps I halted. I turned around. The driver was about to start his taxi, when I shouted, "Uncle." He looked at me, being perplexed. "My friends are not only good. They are the BEST." He shook his head and started his engine. I looked around. People were looking at me, probably due to my weird behaviour. I ignored them. Judgemental people! Like a bunny, I climbed up the stairs, as for elevator, I had to a minute. And I was very much excited to do so. I skipped one stairs for every step and ran on the corridors. I stopped near my room. My excitement knew no boundaries at that moment. I stood in front of our gate and rang the doorbell. I knew that now Ritik and Kamal will open the door, yelling, 'SURPRISE'. I suppressed my smile before pressing the door bell. One... Two... Three... Four.. Five... Five freaking seconds passed, but no body opened the door. I was running out of patience. "Maybe the door is open. They are waiting for me to push the door and then their surprise will be revealed." I patted my back for my smart guess. But all the smartness faded when I found the door locked from outside. What the hell? Nobody is here. And I thought, they are busy in planning a surprise for me. How could they be so insensitive! What an i***t kind of friends I have! To be continued...
