Aahan's Pov
I looked at the left side of mine. And there stood the huge building. There was a big name board carrying the name, 'Verma Software Pvt. Ltd.' was shinning under the sun rays. The building itself was reflecting the nearby areas of the city. One of the most reputed company! Not only in India but also in International level, the company had gained enough name for it's firm existence. It was enough to attract the aspirants, also with whopping salaries and other additional facilities.
After basic authentication in the entrance gate, Kamal drove the car towards it's parking area as suggested by the security personnel. While I just kept looking here and there like a child. Every thing was as per my dream. The place would be the best for me to work and learn. Everyone was so professional, at the same time they were talking with each other in a friendly way. Yes, I belonged here.
But was the place too feeling the same about me? Will they accept my application? Will I get the job here? Or this interview will also turn out to be a disaster like others.
Damn... I was so nervous!
There was a lot of questions running inside my mind. It felt as if all the nerve cells were tangled in a never ending bond and no cells in my body had any command to respond. I was still. But inside, I was in a motion. My mind was insecure with thousands of thoughts, that had suddenly started a running race among them.
I leaned my head on the seat and took a deep breath.
One...
Two...
Three...
..........
Ten....
Yes. Ten deep breaths and I was calm. This was my personal trick. I called it 'trick of life'. Because it definitely will took you back to life, no matter how much you are dead from inside.
"Hey, Man! Best of luck." Kamal wished, showing a thumbs up. I just nodded, showing a little nervousness.
Kamal smiled, probably at my behavior. He was always a practical guy. Rather than comforting lies, he preferred harsh truths. "Aahan! In this rate you are going to be disqualified before the interview only." He sarcastically said.
I glared at him. Yeah I only said that he was practical, and he preferred harsh truths over comforting lies and blah, blah, blah... Then can't he see that here I was tensed and trying my best to calm this uncontrolled mind of mine!
God! Such an insensitive friend I have!
"Can't you say something good ever?" I asked in frustration, to which he make an uninterested face.
"Sorry, but if you won't trust yourself, then why others will trust you?" He nonchalantly replied.
"Whatever!" I angrily replied, before opening the car door. As I came out, I again shut the car door making a 'bang' sound. The action was particularly to show him that 'I am angry'.
While that Baffon just showed his thirty two teeth and said, "Go. Go. They are waiting to hire you, Kid." He replied.
Before I would have say or do any thing he took an u-turn and drove the car towards outside.
"I should have asked Ritik to accompany me. At least he would have encourage me a little, unlike this monkey!" I said to myself, while muttering thousand curses for Kamal in my mind. "You will be disqualified before the interview only!" I mimicked his words. "Huh! As if he had cracked hundred interviews." I continued to mutter numerous curses under the breath and all of them were meant for my one and only lovely and sweet friend - Kamal Kashyap. Note the sarcasm, please.
I was very much angry on Kamal for uttering those non-sense words. But the next moment, my eyes fell upon the locket hanging from my left pocket. The chain and locket, both were very much familiar to me.
It didn't take more than a second to me to recognize the lucky locket of Mrs. Kashyap, Kamal's mother. She considered the locket to be miraculous and always forced Kamal to wear it before going to any important work.
"Kamal must have kept it. Idiot." I smiled at his ways of showing concern. He was like a coconut. From outside, he was always hard. But as you will explore his inner, you will find a good son, a better human and a best friend.
With enough confidence, and yet carrying little nervousness in my heart, I took steps towards the administrative block - which was situated straight to the parking areas. That was already directed in the sign board with an arrow symbol . Keeping eye on the wrist watch, I increased my pace, and reached there.
I reached in the reception desk. There were a man in his early forties and an young girl doing there work. The man was doing some paper works, while the girl was sitting in front of the computer.
"Hello, Miss." I greeted flashing a smile.
The man threw a boring look towards me. Ahh... Grumpy man!
While the girl looked up and grinned. "Aahan!" She squealed and I smiled in embarrassment.
Ugh... Now who is she? Why can't I remember her? Wait, do I really know her?
Nevertheless I cleared my thoughts and smiled cheerfully as if I recognised the long lost friend of mine. "Oh, Hi... Riya!" I thanked God for thousand times and the employer for million times for providing name badge to its employees.
Come on, I just couldn't insult a girl in front of everyone, asking her that who was she? And specially such a pretty girl, who started talk from her side, without showing attitude.
"Come on, Aahan. Don't act. I know you don't know me." She smiled, while I rubbed my nape in embarrassment. "I was your junior and yeah I know you because of some thing else." She replied with a wink. I didn't miss the mischievousness in her eyes, at the same time there was a shy smile on her lips.
"Ahh... Leave the story for another day. I have an interview here." I said, breaking her excitement.
"Oh! You are an interview candidate?" She asked.
"Yes. Can you show me the direction?" I requested.
"Sure, take right and you will find the elevator. Use the one meant for staff only. And then go to 5th floor and you will find a reception there to help you." She replied.
"Alright. Thank you." I said with a smile.
I was about to move out, when Riya said, "Good luck, Aahan."
"Thanks again." We exchanged smile and I went towards the elevator.
"5th floor it is!" I said to myself and moved in the left corridor. Soon I found the elevator, but wait...
The lift door was getting closed.
Damn... The building had 87 floors. The lift was not coming soon. Yeah, I was an impatient person.
Instead of moving towards the other lifts, I chased the one whose door was about to close.
"Excuse me, wait... wait." I shouted towards a girl in the lift lobby.
But the girl stood there doing nothing.
She is same as that grumpy uncle in the reception!
I ran and entered inside the elevator. One second passed and the doors of the elevator were closed.
"Aah..." I sighed in satisfaction and then only I noticed there was no one except me and that grumpy girl.
No, not a filmy scene it was!
I was about to press for the fifth floor, but it was already pressed.
"Oh, so we have same destination!" I exclaimed, while that girl showed no reaction.
Is she a robot?
I glanced at her and smiled a little, but she didn't smile back. Hell on earth, she didn't even spare a glance towards me.
I took a quick notice of her appearance. Well, she was short heighted or maybe she had normal height as a girl should have. But yeah, she was short as compared to me.
Wait, why am I comparing our height!
Come on, Aahan. Think about your interview. You are not in a picnic.
Wait, interview! Is that girl also an interviewee? But she seems too confident. She will grab the job for sure. It would be good if I will get it too.
"Damn, Aahan! You had a goal. You were seeking a job to survive. Stop thinking about this girl." My mind scolded me.
I thought to concentrate. Just then the lift door opened, with a pop-up sound.
"If you are done with your starring session, Can I get some space?" The girl sternly asked and I realised that I was standing in front of her and looking directly at her from the beginning.
What's wrong with me? It's creepy.
But my ego was enough big to accept my fault. I looked at her from head to toe again.
She was wearing a simple baby pink colored kurta, that reached till her knee. The white leggings and black sandal was not much complimenting to her kurta. But still she was radiating.
But no, my ego interrupted. "For the college captain Aahan Choudhry, She was just another normal girl, who was average or maybe below average for him. Aahan shook his head." I reminded myself to satisfy my ego.
"The lift had stopped a minute ago. I have work to do unlike you." The girl again said, probably getting no response from me. She waved her hand in front of his face to break my trance.
Attitude she has!
"Excuse me, high dreams you have! Aahan Choudhry will stare you. In your dreams." I chuckled. "Look at yourself. Pink kurta, white leggings and black sandal. Eww... No fashion sense at all." I made an unpleased face.
"I guess, no fashion show is going here to sense my fashion skills. But yeah, I am enough confident to tap my feet before attending an interview."
My face was red out of embarrassment. Her befitting reply had left me shocked.
I tapped my feet against floor, every time I was nervous. For the first time a girl had noticed this weak side of mine. Otherwise girls usually die for my look. Mostly they went gaga over my charming personality. But seeing the girl in front of me, I was sure that she had no interest in me.
I automatically gave her space. She moved out and I followed her. Soon we reached near the reception. The girl moved ahead.
"Oh, she is a staff." I realised.
Carrying the light brown coloured leather hand bag, the girl went towards the reception desk and signed on the employee register.
"Good Morning, Ishita." The receptionist wished. She was a married lady in her mid thirties.
"Oh, so Miss rude had a name. Ishita." I said to myself.
Out of curiosity I peeked towards her. From her ID card, that was hanging from her bag, I could see her name, Miss Ishita. I knew, she was working in the company. But before I could know her position, she turned around.
"Interviewee?" She asked, startling me.
I was tongue-tied as if a kid who was caught for cheating in exam. I just nodded.
"See you soon." She said and moved inside. While I stood there to ask the details from the reception.
Wait, I saw her lips curled up a little. Was it a smile? No, she was smirking, that too in an evil way.
"Miss Ishita! Interesting." I whispered unknowningly.
"Interesting! Seriously? Come on, Aahan! From when did you start to show interest in such average kind of girl?" My own subconscious mocked.
I surely had no time in my hand to think about all these weirdness of mine.
I went to the receptionist and registered my name.
Shaking my head continuously, I moved forward to found a bunch of people were sitting with almost same dress code, holding a file on hand as usual. I went, and adjusted myself on the seat and sat quietly. I breathed peacefully while most of the people around me were busy in looking down their papers.
Sitting on the chair, I kept tapping my feet on the floor. Habits never change. I knew, my name would come in no time, as my name was Aahan, which comes early if we arrange names alphabetically.
Suddenly, a office boy came out, and as per my prediction said, "Aahan Choudhry!"
I looked up and there was the interview, I had prepared for.
To be continued...
