Chapter 14: The Shift in Control and Chapter 15: No Going Back

281 Words
Lyra didn’t step back. If anything— She moved closer. Her voice quieter now. “Maybe I don’t want you to.” That broke it. The last thread of restraint snapped. Kael closed the distance. The kiss wasn’t gentle. Not hesitant. Not careful. It was controlled intensity— Built from everything they had been holding back. Lyra responded instantly, her hands gripping his armor, pulling him closer as heat surged through her body. Her fire flared— But didn’t burn. Didn’t spiral. It focused. On him. Through him. Their breaths tangled. Their movements matched. And for the first time— Neither of them was holding back. When they finally broke apart— It wasn’t because they wanted to. It was because they had to. Lyra’s forehead rested against his. Breathing uneven. “You were right,” she whispered. Kael’s voice was low. “I know.” A beat. Then— “This changes everything.” Lyra didn’t pull away. “No,” she said. “It starts everything.” There was no distance anymore. Not really. Even when they stepped apart— It wasn’t the same. Something had shifted. Deep. Permanent. Lyra turned slightly, trying to steady herself. But her fire still hummed beneath her skin. Stronger. More alive than ever before. “This is a problem,” she said. Kael’s voice came from just behind her. “Yes.” She glanced back at him. “You don’t sound concerned.” A faint shift in his expression. “I am.” A pause. “Just not enough to stop.” That— That was the truth. And they both knew it. Lyra exhaled slowly. “Good.” Because neither was she.
