I heard the sound of a car engine go off just as I slid Damian his plate of pancakes for breakfast. After the events of the night before, it was almost like we didn't know how to act around each other.
Damian retreated into our bedroom immediately Bryan left, and I was left still sitting at the dinner table, holding a disbelieving hand to my lips. By the time I went to join Damian in bed, he was sound asleep.
For the first time since his best friend kissed me, we exchanged glances.
"Are you expecting anyone?," Iasked him.
He shook his head. "Maybe it's Bryan..."
My heart thudded at the mention of Bryan's name, and I went to get the door, praying it wasn't him, and at the same time praying it was him.
It was him.
I took a moment to take in the good-looking man standing at the door.
"Good morning, my love? Did you sleep well?" Bryan was all smiles, looking well rested and as charming as he usually did. I wondered how he had gone from calling me "Connie", to using such an endearment.
"Hello, Bryan," I murmured, not quite able to keep my eyes on him. "Damian's just having breakfast. Please, join us."
He stepped in, but declined, showing me his Starbucks coffee cup. "Thanks, but this is all I need." He grinned at me, showing perfect pearly whites.
Feeling uncharacteristically skittish, I padded back to the table. Damian's eyes travelled from his friend to me, and back again.
I was struck by how different the two men looked. Damian was blond and handsome, and on the muscular side. He always seemed to have stubble, no matter how long ago he'd shaved. His looks were rugged. Bryan, on the other hand, was more beautiful than handsome. He had the whole pretty boy thing going on, with a slim build, dark eyes, and a smile that never failed to draw ladies. They were both perfect. I'd also known them both for approximately the same number of years.
"Hey, man."
They greeted each other, and Bryan looked expectantly at me.
"So, did you guys talk about it?," he asked eagerly.
I shook my head, and his face fell. Immediately, I tried to do damage control.
"That is...I thought it'd be better if you were here for the discussion. Isn't that right, darling?," I asked Damian.
"Of course."
We remained in an income silence for a moment before I awkwardly tried to break it.
"How's this going to work?," I asked.
"What do you mean?," Bryan asked.
"Are you two going to share me at the same time?" I flushed with the implication of my words. "Or are you going to take turns?"
"You're up for it, then?," Bryan asked eagerly.
I shrugged uncomfortably. "I mean...I guess? You both seem to want it."
I watched Damian for a reaction and his face lit up. I realized he really wanted this too.
Resolving to not give myself a chance to second-guess the whole thing, I plowed on.
"I'm down for whatever as long as Damian is okay with it."
"I am," my husband said decisively. His deep voice sent shivers down my spine, and all of a sudden, I wanted to climb him. I also wanted to do the same to Bryan. At the same time, or one after the other, I didn't really care.
"So, it's settled?," Bryan asked, taking a step closer to me.
"Shouldn't we do a test run kind of thing?," I asked. "To know if this would really work?"
Bryan's demeanor had changed sometime between then and the moment I said I was down for it. He looked... predatory.
"You don't think it will?," he breathed. "Even after last night?"
The kiss.
"Um...well, that might have been a one time..."
Bryan took a large step forward and suddenly, he was in my space. I drew in a deep breath, and with it the subtle scent of his cologne. It was heady.
"You think your reaction to me was a one-time thing?," he asked quietly, reaching up to stroke my chin with a single finger.
I shivered.
"You think I can't make you feel that way again?," he asked, his voice smooth.
"I... I..."
Slowly, deliberately, Bryan's fingers tangled in my hair, tilting my head upwards for him. His other hand snaked around my waist and pulled me closer to him. I could hear my heart pounding in my ears.
When he bent and kiss me, it was all I could do not to moan out loud. My hands clenched on the lapels of his suit as his tongue roamed my mouth, rendering me weak in the knees.
My head swam with sensation. I almost didn't realize when he pulled back, his lips curved in a one-sided smirk.
"That didn't feel like a one-time reaction," he said huskily.
I couldn't help but notice that although he seemed to have better control over himself, his reaction was not much different from mine.
Flustered, I smoothed out his lapels and stepped out of his hold, immediately bumping into my husband whom I hadn't noticed was right behind me. I whirled around to face him, eyes wide.
He looked...hungry. And not for breakfast.
"We'll be going now," he said to me, abruptly pulling me to him by my waist. His hands roamed possessively.
"Damian, I..."
All coherent thought left my head as his lips covered mine in another searing kiss. I'd barely recovered from Bryan. Damian's kiss left me breathless.
His gaze was smouldering when he finally let go of me, after placing a small kiss on the side of my lips and on my forehead.
"Don't miss us too much." He kissed me again.
Bryan winked at me as Damian walked past.
With that, the two men left the house, the sounds of their cars alerting me to their departure, while I stood there, wishing with all my being that they would come back and finish what they'd started.
