Magic Circle

I sat down at the end of the street. It has already been two days since I have left my little neighborhood without any guilt. My legs were paining. These two days I ate whatever people offered me out of pity. I am again hungry now.

But I got up. I don’t know where I am presently. I only know that I have to quickly get out of this kingdom.

Yondra, is the seventh most powerful kingdom of the Wolvia Empire. It is normal for Imperial nobles to visit here. Including Winfreds. I have to get out of this kingdom. But since I have no money, so I could only walk.

As I walked, a forest opened up. It looked like a dense forest. I walked without fear. After living with devils, monsters feel less threatening.

In Wolavia, forests are normally sign of monsters. It is mostly the area for the hunters to show their skills. But I do not think there will be any monster in Yondra. As I walked forward, I found a pond, flowing with fresh water.

I ran towards it and drank the water of the pond till my stomach would burst open. As I looked at the water, I suddenly wanted to bath. Ever since I woke, I had some disgusting smell on me. I did not realize in my last life that stink like a garbage bin. No wonder, the maids were always irritated in bathing me when I first entered the mansion in my past life.

I removed my clothes. I guess I should even wash them.

I don’t think anyone will enter this deep forest. Though I was confident about this, I still kept my eyes and ears alert. I rubbed each part of my body until my skin became red and was about to bleed.  I really wish that I had those fragrant soaps that I got in the mansion. Huh.. if I want to gain my freedom, I have to lose my luxury. But I do not regret losing my luxurious life.

As I tried to clean my back, I turned my head backward and my eyes fell on the reflection of my back in the water.

My heart skipped a beat. My already shocked eyes, fixed at my reflection, did not move. I swallowed hard as the truth digested into me. I immediately ran towards the bank and sat silently, with horrified face. I wasn’t this shaken even when I found myself in my younger body.

After a couple of moments, after I recovered myself from my shock, I again walked towards pond. I sat with my naked back towards the water surface and looked back again.

There was a magic circle imprinted on my back. The magic circles drawn and letter of the ancient language written, were of bit darker complexion then my skin color, which makes its presence natural. As if they were on me since my birth.

But I didn’t have it on my back in my past life.

Why do I have it in this life?

Suddenly few memories streamed in my mind.

I remembered Isle’s smile as she said those words. That sly smile that gave me chills to the bottom of my bone.

Sorry, I messed up your back a bit.

Her apology that did not have any sincerity.

 I lived in Haston village which is situated in the northwest of Larrenth kingdom.

Her brief description she gave about herself before my death, as if asking me to save her.

You want revenge.

I remembered my serious reaction when she said these words.

Isle, were you the one who gave me this new life?

 I hope we will be good friends in next life.

I remember her warm hug, as if she truly wished it from the bottoms of her heart. Yes, let’s become good friends in this life.

At that moment, I decided to travel to Larrenth kingdom. I don’t know if the monster attack is yet to happen or already happened. But the way she described it more felt like she later added about the count from Taloupia.

She mostly looked sure that I will travel to the time before the attack. I just have to find and save her before the given time. Well, rescuing her from the monster attack is much easier then rescuing her from the slave traders or a sadistic count.

Monsters are just savage beasts, but humans can become devils with beautiful face.

I will go to the Larrenth kingdom. I decided.

I later washed my dirty dress and dried them on the branch. I ate my lunch by plucking wild fruits. It was weird. Even though this is a dense forest, a free ground of wild animals to roam, but I am still not scared. I guess I do not feel any fear of death.

If it was my past life, I would have started to cry loudly.

I walked in the direction I came, but this time I wasn’t wondering aimlessly, I know which way should I now go.

“Do you know where is Larrenth kingdom?” I asked a carriage driver.

Since Yondra is a famous kingdom, it is a famous tourists spot that attract a lot of attention. From nobles to commoners, everyone wishes to visit it once. But since not everyone can afford a private carriage, there are carriage drivers, who carry people all around the Yondra.

“Larrenth? I heard it for the first time” he said.

“Oh. Thank you for answering” I said and walked away.

“Though this girl looks poor, but she still got good manners” I heard his murmurings.

Thought I washed myself clean at every inch, still I looked like a beggar from every inch. People would normally dislike me, but thank god he answered me without frowning.

I visited to railway station and went directly to the station master. He was middle aged man with bulging stomach and serious face.

“Go away. I don’t have money to spare” he shouted.

“I am not here to ask a money. I want to ask a question” I said.

“A question? What a beggar like you would ask? Can you spare me some food? Or can I work under you? Go away. I don’t have time for you” he said, grimacing.

I know these kinds of people very well. They act all mighty in front of the weak and lick the shoes of the powerful people. And I even know how to deal with these people.

“I thought you know everything because you are the station master” I started to coat him with sugar sweet words, “but you don’t wish to answer me. I want to know about a place and a way to reach there, so I thought of asking, As the station master knows about every corners of not only Yondra, but the entire empire. What a pity that such a knowledgeable person doesn’t wish to answer me.”

I looked at him. He looks quite pleased. I smiled, praising my cleverness. I immediately hid my smile, and showed my tearful eyes, when he looked at me.

“Fine. Tell me where you want to go” he finally became ready to listen.

“Larrenth” I asked immediately.

He thought for few minutes and looked around doubtfully. Then he looked at me and I felt sweat under my back neck as he looked at me furiously.

“Are you playing games with me” he shouted, “I have never heard about in my twenty years’ service as a station master.”

That completely shattered my hope.

“I understand. Sorry for wasting your time” I apologized and walked away.
