I followed Eleven into a dark narrow path.
After the receptionist, no, the bar owner, told me about the untold secrets, I suspiciously doubted him. Ugh… why in the world am I following him so obediently? I am very scared. Truthfully. Why did chose to enter the door with him? I scolded myself over my stupid decisions.
In the Winfred mansion, I always learned to be wary of people. But why the hell am I left with no choice but to follow this big guy? This is irritating. If I fell in trouble, what will happen to me?
I sighed silently.
If I fall into some damn trap, I can still survive. I am not a nine-year-old girl but a twenty-year-old adult. People won’t be wary of kids as they are innocent, so my chances of escape are easy. If a situation arises, I can still trick people using my wits, just the same way I did in my previous life.
Yes, I can survive.
I clenched my hand when I found light entering the dark passage. The huge man in front of me, covered the entire tunnel for himself, barely letting me see light. If anything happens, I can still run away.
I could hear voices from the other side, but I still let my guard up. I tried to check the surroundings and found the crowded street. Is it really a black market? Is he really the hunter? Then why is he taking me to the black market? The bar owner clearly said that children aren’t sold here. But how can I trust him? I have only met him once.
I entered a bustling street. There were people selling weird horns, skins and I even found a drug shop. People here wore different outfits; some wore tight fit suits whereas some wore a loose gown type dress. Some were fair while some were dark skinned. There were no shops in particular, people laid their products on some small wooden table or on a cloth laid on the ground.
Few people looked over things curiously while few people bargained furiously. Seller shouted, listing their items and even their rates to attract people. There were few shops selling food made from the parts of the monster. Though they smelled good, but it still churned my stomach for some reasons.
This is the first time in my two live where I saw monsters being sold so exclusively.
I could not look around, as I had to follow Eleven, who won’t wait for me. After walking for nearly twenty minutes, I guess, he stopped in front of the inn. He entered the inn and I walked inside with him. The inn was a small place, made of wood, where the smell of beer was overflowing in air.
There were men, sitting on the long wooden stools, holding big wooden mugs, filled with beer, place on the long wooden tables. There were people who were singing and dancing their own tune, and there were few who were arguing among themselves. Though it was an inn, it was no different from the bar that I left.
If I had visited such a place in my past place, I would be considered as a disgrace. Well, I never went anywhere except being locked in that big mansion in my past life. Compared to those cold walls, this place can be considered very warm.
Eleven walked towards a group of people sitting on the right and I went with him. As a man from the middle table saw us approaching, he stood up and said, “leader, you are back”.
As he called this hunk man a leader, everyone on the table looked in our direction. There were twelve men in total, with different physique, wearing shirts and trousers with their hunting boots. Few carried weapons, like sword, hammer, etc. while few were bare handed. All had red drunken faces, with unsteady movements, each holding those big mugs.
They noticed me only when I approached near them.
“Allulluu, what is this child doing here?” a man asked, oozing with beer smell.
“Leader, are you planning to adopt this beggar?” another guy asked.
“A small girl like shouldn’t be here. it is the place for adults” another person said.
“Leader, weren’t you going to Kairan?” yet another asked.
“This girl” Eleven said after sitting in an empty spot of the stool, “I found her near railway station asking for Larrenth. So I took her here.”
“Ah… little girl, what is your name?” a man asked her.
Name! What should I say? Amelia? Emma? In past life, I was given the name by the Winfreds. But no one called me by my name. Nobles called me Lady Winfred. Servants never dared to call my name. And Charlotte called me sister. Duke and his sons did not even care to specify my name. They simply ignored my presence.
“Look at this child. Do you think anyone will care to name her?” another guy said, putting his arms around the one who asked my name.
I smiled awkwardly. Is my puzzled face so obvious?
“Leader give her some name?” a man suggested.
The hunk looked at me from top to bottom, and then though for some time. Is he seriously thinking of naming me? By the seriousness of his face, I guess he is seriously thinking. In my past life my name was quite beautiful. Amelia Emma Winfred. I really liked it when I received it. It felt very classic. Like I am really someone noble.
Looking at my face, it is obvious for people to spend hours on my name. Looking at the intensity on the face of this huge man, he must have been racking his brain to come up with the best name.
“Six” he finally said.
What?
“Call her Six” he declared.
Are you serious? Six? I don’t accept it. Such a ridiculous name. How did he come up with such a name?
“I though you were thinking hard when I saw your serious expression” a man blurted, “but you were actually calculating her age. As expected of leader.”
“I am nine years” I shouted.
All suddenly looked at me. You humiliated me by giving such a stupid name and then even miscalculate my age. Actually, it is not weird that they think I am six- or seven-year-old child. My skinny body and dried face, the result of malnourishment, will make anyone mistake. But right now, I am frustrated, I won’t accept this name. Never. I won’t ever acknowledge this name. Ever.
Where is Amelia Emma Winfred and where is Six!
“Allulluu, it seems the kid did not like this name. Look at her pouting face” a man said and lifted me like some feather. He made me sit beside him.
“Six, are you hungry?” he asked.
I am not Six. I did not respond to his question.
“Waiter, bring some meat over here” he said, without waiting for my reply.
Immediately, a big piece of meat of place in front. My saliva drooled from my mouth as its smell reached me. I did not eat anything since morning except few wild fruits. Even though I was angry, but its oily texture made me forget my anger, as I stared at it with the shinning eyes.
I checked for some knife to cut. But I could not find any. I looked around to find something to cut this big lump of meat, but I could not find any.
“It seems it is the first time Six saw such big piece of meat” a man said.
“Let me teach you how to eat” the man who lifted me said.
He took the big chunk of meat and tore it with his teeth. He chewed it harshly and finally swallowed it at once. I looked at him with surprised face.
What a barbaric way of eating?
