The search began at 6 AM Saturday morning before the hospital’s busiest hours.
Detective Chen stood in the parking lot of St. Catherine’s Medical Center with Detective Mills, ADA Reid, two K-9 units with cadaver dogs, and a team of uniformed officers. The hospital administrator, a thin man named Gerald Foster, looked uncomfortable in his weekend casual clothes.
“I need to be clear,” Foster said. “This hospital has already been searched once. We cooperated fully then and we’re cooperating now, but this is disruptive to patient care.”
“We understand,” Chen said. “But we have new information that requires a more thorough search.”
“You think the baby is still here? That the mother hid her somewhere?”
“We’re investigating all possibilities.”
