    Katie was in the recliner eating breakfast when Dr. Hayes came in. She eyed him expectantly and mouthed, “I can go?”     He pulled up a chair to sit beside her. “You’re young and have bounced back fast.” He viewed the healed skin around her wrists. “Okay, move them through their range of motion.” She did as he asked. No wincing or change in her expression. The facial bruises were fading. “The nurses tell me you’ve been prowling the halls like a caged animal and eating like there’s no tomorrow. How are your ribs feeling?”     “They twinge sometimes, otherwise they don’t bother me.” Katie flashed her most charming smile and leaned forward. “Let me go, Dr. Hayes. I miss my baby boy.
