    The cold cement floor roused her. Katie tried to separate her eyelids but a crustiness glued them together. Alternately squeezing the lids and orbital muscles then relaxing them, created watery tears which lubricated the lashes. Finally she was able to open them. Her body hurt in so many places she was unable to discern what pained her the most. Taking a breath was pure agony. She was sure some ribs were broken. Her wrenched arms rebelled. The skin around her wrists felt raw and abraded as she strained against her bindings. It would be easier to breathe if she could just get rid of that inhibiting duct tape over her mouth. A pounding headache threatened to overwhelm her senses. She could move her legs but the feet were useless, bound with duct tape. The room was dark. She couldn’t dist
