Joanne jumped back. She was suddenly acutely aware that she was still in her stage costume, an almost translucent bodysuit that made her skin pearlescent white and barely hid her chest and bottom.
A hot blush danced across her cheeks.
"I'm sorry, Princess. I shouldn't have come here. Let me wait for you outside. Perhaps we can go for a ride?"
Joanne was tired, exceedingly so. To meet her soulmate and asked to choose between him and her throne when she barely knew him was an exhausting thought. Besides, she needed to talk to Heana and ask her about what her mother said.
It was impossible to enter the White Kingdom without Heana's powers, so all of them had their own apartments in the city. Even Heana had her own apartment, because dalliances with men were much easier with a real space than in a magical land. So Joanne needed to go to Heana's apartment.
The stranger sensed her apprehension and stepped back.
"I'm sorry, Princess. I shouldn't have come. I think it best I leave you alone tonight." He turned to leave, pulling open the curtains of the backstage to go.
"Wait ! I need to know your name before I go!" Joanne cried out.
The stranger turned, a cheeky grin lighting his face up.
"Princess, I think not. You might not want to see me again if you know my name. Let's just say I've got a bad reputation as the biggest playboy around.
His eyes raked hungrily over her as he continued, " but I do find it interesting that we are soulmates. A celestial joke, almost, as it were. Not that I am complaining." He bowed down after he said that, and walked off, crossing the stage in a few strides. Then turning around, he gave a final bow, and walked down the stairs, heading towards the exit.
Joanne, in the meantime, stayed rooted to the ground. Where his eyes had gone left pinpricks of desire.
She was well aware of the soulmate connection, but a well trained warrior could never show their emotions. Once the stranger left, Joanne hurried to change and leave the club. She needed answers, and she needed them quickly.
Opening the doors of the strip club, she was hit by cold, cold air rushing in to greet her. A tiny snowflake fell on her face. Snow in June?
The Kingdom had strange weather since the mages sometimes had experiments gone wrong. This could be a result. Joanne decided not to overthink and walked towards her car in the lot.
The boots and the cold air made for a sombering walk, and it cleared her mind. She climbed into her car and headed to Heanna's apartment with the window down, and realised the snow was getting heavier.
Perhaps it was best to just head back home today. She sighed and exited the freeway, going to her apartment instead.
It was a long drive, and she replayed the day's events in ber head.
It was a tough choice, and she couldn't do it without first asking other warriors. Could someone else step up as Queen? And why was she still thinking about the stranger ?
Such a flirt, calling me Princess.
Wait a minute, Princess?
The realisation made her throw her brakes on. How did he know who she was?
Only those who were royal knew who were in the white order. This was to protect their privacy and ensured they could carry out their duties in secret.
Unless, there was someone, or something else. Joanne had heard a rumour that the Dark Order had returned.
Was he the new king?
