Chapter 6

1434 Words
Queen's POV: Everything I knew was coming together perfectly. I know the dragon Rageio would not trust easily and I'm sure the others, where ever they were, had heard our conversation. I wanted it that way. I may not have been born in the light of royalty, but I come from the same line My grandmother was a witch, and a very powerful one, she was also once a servant to the prince, son of the king and became his mistress. Soon afterwards she became pregnant with my mother. After finding out and telling the king's son, he had dismissed her from the castle and sent her to live alone and raise my mother on her own. My grandmother was heartbroken and vowed to never love another. The prince had given her an establishment as payment for her service rendered. My grandmother soon learned of the prophecy and began to teach my mother everything about her magic. When my mother met father and had me, she said she could feel all her power draining her as she gave birth to me. After she was healed and had enough strength to practice on her magic she had realized that she had none left. Before my grandmother passed, the simple questions of why I wasn't the chosen one was asked. My grandmother did not know the answer to this, but from what she has learned over the years and studying the prophecy, she did know this...I would be given the chance to marry into a royal family and give birth to the chosen one. I was nervous to someday become part of a royal family in public light, seeing as I was already part of a Royal bloodline. But how the turn of events when thinking about it happened was quite a shock to me when I met Richard at his royal ball of princesses. I was a handmaiden to a princess, at one point and she was terribly awful. More like a spoiled brat than any princess I have seen or come into the presence of before. I couldn't believe how fake her politeness was until I had witnessed it first hand. flashback: Prince Richard's Ball I was around 16 when I became a right hand maid to Princess Rebecca. I was excited and nervous at the same time. I knew she was going to have a lot for me to do and put me to the test on how to serve her but after a while the demands never stopped. Everything was done for her. Dressing, bathing, eating, drinking and even walking was done for her. I had made a promise during that time that if I did end up marrying into a royal family, my child was not going to be like this one. It was amazing as to how she even kept her figure with how much she ate and never walked around on her own. Then one day a letter arrived, it was sent to all the neighboring kingdoms to invite all princesses to a prince's ball to find his chosen princess. The letter said, In the event of a royal ball, Prince Richard invites all princesses that are welcome to attend with their first right hand maiden to service them during their stay. During this time there will be music, food and gatherings of conversation that will be held with a dance and then the announcement of Prince Richard's chosen princess by the ending week. The castle was ecstatic and the princess had already believed that he would choose her and the other princesses shouldn't bother in coming. Honestly, how could someone be so conceded enough believe in something so ridiculous when he has not even met her yet. I dreaded going to the ball with the princess but I knew I had to. Maybe the prince had a brother I could charm and he would make me his, then I wouldn't have to come back to this castle with this nasty princess everyone seems to "adore" in a way. The day came to where we set off to Prince Richard's castle and such a long journey it was. Two days time it took to get there. Wouldn't have taken that long if we didn't have to stop so the princess could vomit from the bumpy carriage ride. I almost felt sorry for the girl but she would turn nasty afterwards so any remorse for her stomach was gone. We finally arrived and there were so many other princesses with their handmaidens it was overwhelming trying to get to her bed chambers. Once there, I set her luggage on the floor by the bed and started hanging up her gowns in the closet, organized her footwear, laid out her face powder and other make-up accessories along with her hair brush and jewelry on the large vanity connected to a large mirror. The room was beautiful! Absolutely gorgeous. The wood carving of flowers on the bed posts to thin silk curtains in the window. This was nothing like what the princess had in her room. "This castle is most definitely going to be mine soon Alrea" Princess Rebecca said to me as I finished unpacking her belongings. "Prince Richard will have to have me once he sees what I'm wearing in the ball room" she says with a smirk. I silently rolled my eyes with my back to her and replied, "What if he doesn't choose you though?" I asked. Princess Rebecca shot me a glare with daggers in her eyes that would have killed me a thousand times over. "What do you mean 'what if he doesn't ''? she asked with her hands on her hips, "he has to choose me if he wants a good queen beside him," she continued as she flipped her hair back elegantly and folded her arms across her chest. I decided not to say anything further for I did not want to get on her bad side before the ball. She may just leave me here and I would be stuck in place I know nothing about with no way to get back home. I finished unpacking her belongings and started to unpack what little I had brought with me in the spare closet meant for the handmaidens. Once done she did something she has never done before in the whole year that I served her. "Alrea, call a castle servant for me, I wish to take a bath, and afterwards why don't you take the rest of the day to walk the castle grounds and relax. You have serviced me enough for this trip and deserve a short rest, but be back before nightfall so you can help me change into my nightgown." "I-yes princess," I said, "Thank you princess, I shall be back soon." I was honestly amazed how nice this was and I didn't waste a second of getting away from her before she changed her mind. I did as she asked and called for a castle servant, one appeared in a matter of moments for her and I went to explore the castle to find the gardens. I went down the long corridor and took a right turn down another long corridor that was elegantly more beautiful than I have seen of the castle so far. Sculptures of what look like past Kings of this Kingdom in remembrance of their time on the throne. I saw more carvings etched in the interior of the castle. Some of them were beautiful while some others were quite disturbing and almost looked as if faces had been carved in some spots on the pillars, one had their eyes shut, their mouth open wide and looked as if they were screaming for help, another had a sad face looking off to the side and had a small tear running down the side of the cheek. Besides those carvings the castle was very very enchanting. Once walking around for a while I finally stumbled upon what looked to be the garden, I could see roses, petunias, carnations and a whole bunch of other flowers surrounding a fountain of what look to be a dragon of some sort. I was absolutely amazed at how every detail can be seen in the sculpture. I didn't know much about dragons at this time, I was still learning about the prophecy and now I am glad I came to this ball. I may just be able to talk to the other maids that reside here and get some information about the fountain... this I was certain of. flashback end.
