Garden Entrance: Melody
I went looking for Sylvia as my mother had told me to. Also with the double guards on my heels that father had put into place. I rolled my eyes as to how ridiculous this was. I understand I'm the only child of the King and Queen but this is absolutely absurd.
I needed to find Sylvia so I could apologize to her, at least of all people I should have left her a note saying I was already awake and would be fine.
If only I had done that, maybe I could have made it into the Forest woods and followed the mysterious creature so as I could see what it really was.
I was so focused on the earlier events of today that I bumped right into one of the servant boys.
"oof!" we both said at the same time as I felt myself falling to the floor.
Before I or the guards could catch myself the servant boy had caught me with a swift motion of left his arm wrapping around me, pulling me close to him and for a moment I was too stunned to speak.
I gazed into his blue ocean like eyes and I could feel myself almost relaxing in his arms but only for a split moment until when I stood up straight and took a step away while saying "Thank you," dusting myself off, "I apologize, I was off in my own thoughts."
"Yes it seems so," he said, his voice was deep for a young boy but somehow very soothing to my ears.
"After the day you have had princess, I expected none the less." He then stood up and quickly bowed in an apologetic way, quickly saying, "I mean it's my fault princess I was not making sure of anyone's presence when coming out of the room."
He stayed bowed down and didn't look at me. I started to laugh a little and said "how about it's both our faults...um..." I paused for a moment, I didn't know his name, I know almost all the servants and the maids name, I wonder if he is new.
"Rowen" he spoke. "My name is Rowen Dragsore, princess." he smiled at me
"Rowen? Dragsore?" I knew that name. "oh, wait! You must be one of the guards sons. Oh which one was it? let me think for a moment." I turned to the side a little trying to think. Dragsore. And then I remembered.
"Wait a moment," I said turning back to him, "your father is the guard that was sent to look for me near the forest woods!" I pointed at him and the smile on his face went from a confident smile to slightly embarrassed.
"oh, uh, yeah, sorry about that," he said, "My father was just doing as he was told I suppose."
"He was told to carry me back to the castle?" I asked in shock. Rowen nodded, still completely embarrassed by this conversation.
"Yes, well, I suppose he was only following orders." one of the guards at that moment decided to clear his throat and remind me of my current task at hand.
"Yes of course," I said nodding to the guards and turning back to face Rowen, only to find him staring at me.
"Rowen," I said softly
"Yes Princess?" he spoke, never lifting his gaze from mine.
"Would you be so kind as to tell me where I might find my maid Sylvia?"
Rowen's face turned into an almost disgusting look before he caught himself and said, "Of course, the last time I saw her she was in the kitchen with the other maids, talking about how scared she was that she might be executed if you were not found." he rolled his eyes as he said the last part of his sentence and look like he had been hearing it all day.
"You don't seem too keen on hearing about her being frightened in the matter" I said looking at him sideways.
"oh no, it's not that at all," he quickly waved his hands in front of him in a defensive jester with a slight smile of embarrassment "it's just," Rowen paused, then continued, "she really lays it on thick princess, we all knew she was not to blame for you wanting to go and adventure out of the Castle. So we knew she would not be punished and she herself knew this as well."
I stood there taking all this in. I never really talked with Sylvia much, hardly saw her at all some days. She doesn't seem like the type to be all about herself like that, of course, again I did not know much about her and we hardly spoke to one another let alone conversed very much.
"Thank you, Rowen. You have been much help." I said putting my hand on his shoulder. He stood up straight turned and bowed to me, "The pleasure is all mine, you are most welcome, Princess Melody." He said smiling and continued on his chores.
I went to find Sylvia only for us to find each other as we rounded a corner and almost bumped into one another.
"oh! Princess! I'm so sorry, I was just-um-I was," she stuttering
"It's alright Sylvia " I said putting up a hand to stop her.
"I was infact just searching for you" I said and my eyes fell to the floor. "I wanted to apologize for this morning, I should have at least left you a note with my whereabouts and I apologize for making you worry so much about me."
Sylvia stood there shell shocked. She didn't know what to say.
"It's okay princess, we found you and that's all that matters." she said softly, smiling.
"It's not okay, you are my maid and I should have thought about your feelings and how you might react seeing me gone from my chambers with no hint of where I was and so I also thank you, Sylvia, for caring about my well-being. You really are a wonderful maid to have and I am ever so sorry to have put you through that. I swear it will never happen again."
"Your welcome Princess Melody." Sylvia smiled a big smile that stretched from ear to ear. I wrapped my arms around her and squeezed a hug from her and we both giggled at how foolish I was today.
"Turning 16 must be a big deal princess." Sylvia said after I let her go.
"So I have heard anyways," I said.
"I'm not so sure about this training to be queen thing yet. I'm not sure if I'm even ready for it." I sighed and felt Sylvia put a hand on mine and said,
"You are going to be a fine Queen one day princess and I shall follow you until the very end." she said and curtsied to me.
"Thank you Sylvia, I appreciate your kindness and your loyalty to me."
I felt a surge of confidence with the training I would be starting tomorrow. I was nervous but I was also, at this very moment, somewhat excited to learn everything I could about being a ruler.
I was ready to learn now. And tomorrow would be the start of a new adventure in training.
