Chapter 2

I locked the door as I went inside the house. "I'm home grandma!" I yelled as I ventured to the kitchen. My grandma was currently by the fridge, pulling out some eggs and the milk carton when she turned to look at me. "Hi sweetie. Awe, your glasses broke." she said, putting down the food and walking towards me and giving me a hug. "What happened?" she asked. "I'd rather not talk about it. It wasn't something important." I lied. I never wanted to talk to my grandma about being bullied. For one thing, it doesn't happen as frequently as it used to, and second, I don't want her to have to worry about me every second that I am at school. Worried that I may come back all beaten and bloodied or something. "Are you sure?" she asked, looking at me skeptically. I nodded in response. "Alright then. There are some snacks in the fridge if you are hungry," she said. "Thanks grandma." I said as I went upstairs to put my stuff away. I have been living with my grandma since I was about six years old. I used to live with my parents, but both of them died in a horrific car crash. Ever since then, I have been living here with my grandma. I used to be here with my grandpa as well, but he passed away a couple of years ago. Whenever I think about their deaths, I always tear up. Here I am as a junior in high school. It has been eleven long years and I still cry as if it happened just yesterday. 'Stay positive.' I thought to myself and I laid on my bed and looked up at the ceiling. As I relaxed on my bed, my thoughts drifted back to Bianca Rose. Freshman and Sophomore year, I have admired her from afar, and she never knew I existed. And now, halfway through junior year, and she is seeing me for the very first time. Was she entertained? Was she bored? Was she annoyed by me? I groaned as I sat up against my headboard and played a game on my phone. I was so engrossed with my game that I did not hear the footsteps approaching my room. "So, any luck with Bianca?" my grandma's voice asked, startling me a little. "No. She did notice me for the first time ever, but I don't think it helped much." I admitted. I had developed a habit of ranting to grandma about Bianca. About how pretty she is, how I should try and say hi to her, how to ask her out, basically every possible worry you could think of when approaching your crush. Grandma did not seem to like her all that much, but she claims that if I were ever fortunate enough to get her as my girlfriend and she actually cares about me, then she would easily accept her. "Well, she noticed you. That's something positive in my book." she said, sitting on my bed. "Did you know that it took ten years for your grandpa to gain my attention?" she asked. "Actually yes. He told me before that he would spend night after night trying to think of a way to get you to notice him. And he prayed that you would find him attractive." I said. "And I did," she said, smiling. "Who knows Cason, maybe Bianca feels something for you now that she's seen you for the first time." she added, standing up and walking out of the room. 'That would have to take just about all the luck in the world.' I thought to myself as I went back to my game. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ The next day came by and I drove myself to school. As I drove, I thought to myself, 'This time, I have to go say hi to her.' I could not chicken out again. If I don't say anything at all, then I may as well kiss the possibilities of her as my girlfriend good-bye. But then another part of me started to speak. 'What are you thinking?! This is Bianca Rose! The bad girl of the school! For all we know, if you say hi to her, she might just break your leg!' This is what I am constantly at war with inside of myself. I pulled into the parking lot and parked my car. On the way to the building, on the far left side, there were the dudes who bullied me yesterday. Their leader, Dex, seemed to be flirting with someone. That someone was Bianca! 'Well shit.' I thought as I continued to watch them from the sidewalk. How could she not fall for that guy? He's probably one of the most popular kids in the school, and he's a freaking giant! He'll probably get her to fall for him in the next eight seconds or less. Bianca was smoking a cigar as Dex was flirting with her. However, to my relief, it seemed as if she was trying to ignore them, and she seemed really agitated by their presence. Then, at last, she turned to Dex, and walked very close to him. He thought she was going to kiss him, as did I. Therefore, I turned and continued to walk to the entrance. But then I heard a loud yell, and turned around. Dex was holding his mid section with both hands as two of his four buddies held him so that he wouldn't fall. Bianca was walking away from the group with an extremely agitated look on her face. She dropped the cigarette, stomped on it, and pressed onward. Once again, I was caught staring at her again when she looked in my direction. I blushed, and almost turned my head away again. But I stopped myself, and turned back towards her. I don't know how I did it, but I somehow mustered enough courage to walk towards her. She seemed just as surprised as I was at my reaction. I stopped about four feet from her, cleared my throat and said, "H-Hello Bianca." Bianca just raised her brows and looked at me expectantly. "Hi," she said back. "I-I'm Cason." I said, sticking my hand out for her to shake. She looked at it, and looked back up at me, but never took my hand. So I withdrew it. "So, how's it going today?" I asked, trying to spark a conversation. "Well, considering that I just kneed an asshole in his potatoes, and now I'm talking to a nerd with taped glasses, you could say I am decent." she replied with a bit of snark in her voice. I rubbed the back of my neck, signaling that I was nervous about this whole thing. I was about to say something else when she beat me to the punch. "Now, if you don't mind pal, I have more important things to attend to than talking to a quiet nerd. So unless you wanna end up like no-nuts in the parking lot, I suggest you leave me alone." She said flatly, then walked around me. I turned to look at her retreating form as she walked away. My god, even her walk was absolutely perfect! The way her hips moved with every step she took, and the way her hair bounced in the wind was too mesmerizing to ignore. Never the less, her attitude really put a damper on things. 'Well, so much for luck.' I thought to myself as I headed to the building where my first period class was. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Leading up to the last class, I did my usual routine. I did my school work in class, surfed the web during lunch on my phone, and above all, avoided any popular kids. Nine times out of ten, they will all turn out to be complete snobs towards you. Speaking of popular snobs, during lunch I saw Bianca and three other people crowded at a table by the fence. Two of them were girls, and one was a boy. They all seemed to have tattoos and piercings of some sort. Though I couldn't see any piercings on Bianca, now that I'm a safe distance away from her. "God, she was being mean to me earlier and yet still I find her irresistible!" I muttered to myself in frustration. "Why must the world be unfair?" I decided to pack up earlier than usual at the sight of Bianca there. If she was not interested in me, I was not going to torture myself any longer than I had for these two and a half years. I told myself I was going to say hi to her, and I did. And that left me drowning in a hole of misery. So now, I'm gonna dig myself out and abandon it. When I threw the leftovers into the trash, that's when I caught Bianca's eye. She looked at me and gave me a small and lopsided smile. But her eyes held no emotion towards it, and her 'smile' didn't look like a smile at all now that I think about it. One side of her mouth just stretched straight out. I exhaled, gave her a look of disappointment and hurt, before turning to walk away. When math class came, as usual, I was the first person to arrive into the classroom. I was getting out my binder and my homework, when I heard someone sitting in the seat next to me only seconds later. I glanced up for a second and looked back down, before freezing and directing my gaze back towards the person. I couldn't believe my eyes. Bianca Rose was sitting there, before class had begun. And she seemed to have her gaze, once again, focused on me. While I blushed at her sudden attention, I remembered what happened the last time I spoke to her and decided to just let her be. "Hello." I heard. I raised my gaze up and saw Bianca still looking at me. That lopsided smirk was back on her face when I looked. And this time, it actually looked like a smile, and it was really pretty. "Hello again." I said, looking down again at the rest of the students and Mr. Hedges arrived to start class. I could not believe that Bianca Rose said 'hello' to me! But I surely wasn't expecting what would happen after class that day either.
