Kai and Jax drove back to the Pack's province in utter silence.
They eventually found a small guest house and decided to stay there for the night and plan on what next to do, but Liam went separately not wanting to share his plans with Kai.
"Your brother is acting suspicious ever since this quest thing came up" Jax said as they entered the bar area of the guest house.
"He is just upset about this whole thing. The Alpha position is naturally his birthright.
Kai sat at a table with a glass of scotch in front of him as he waited for Jax to arrange a room under fake names.
But he seemed to be lost in thought, he couldn't believe what happened that afternoon at the roads.
He never in his wildest imaginations believed that he would ever find a mate and not even in the way he had witnessed earlier that day.
Something he had waited for, for the past eight years since his wolf manifested. He had found his mate, and his mate was a slave boy!
What more does the moon goddess has in store for him, he wondered, first he has to fight his brother for the Alpha position and now he has to explain how his mate is a boy.
He chuckled sadly to himself not noticing that Jax was back and seated across him on the table.
"What is so funny inside a glass of scotch?" Jax asked catching Kai's attention
"Funny? Did you see me laugh at anything?" Kai asked back looking confused.
"Yes, you just smiled at your drink" Jax replied
Kai was too tired to argue and Jax is not one to stop until he is satisfied. He didn't even realise he had smiled.
He just shook his head at Jax and stood up to leave.
"Hey, you haven't answered my questions" Jax said as soon as Kai stood up.
"Jax, how about I answer your questions tomorrow? Take pity on your tired friend" Kai said feigning a yawn.
"I wonder what you saw in that cave that got you like this" Jax called after him.
But Kai ignored his whinning and headed upstairs to the room to rest.
Kai lay in the bed, his thoughts, about the boy he had seen earlier today.
He couldn't stop thinking about the strange encounter and even worse how he turned out to be his mate.
Sleep eluded him as he laid on the bed, even the scotch he drank was not able to help him sleep. He tossed and turned pondering on the situation.
"I need to get to know the boy atleast, he is my mate after all. " he thought to himself and cringed at the word 'mate' .
Kai sighed, sitting up on the bed in the little cramped guest room, he wondered if it was the discomfort of the bed that chased the sleep away more than the thoughts of the slave boy.
"What was he thinking crossing the road carelessly that way? Does he know about the bloodstone? Maybe he could be of help. And why was he so frightened?" Kai thought.
Kai stood up from the bed, and had a cold shower "maybe it will help me relax" he said to himself as he dragged himself to the bathroom.
"I have to find him. I need to see him again." He thought to himself as he dried the water from his body, his wolf whinning at the thought of him.
Kai walked over to the window that overlooked the small town and stood gazing through it, wondering what was going on with Scepter, his wolf.
Scepter has always been a cool-headed wolf, well calculated and rarely makes an appearance except when needed.
It really lives up to it's sovereign name. But ever since they met the slave boy, Scepter has been whining and growling, getting a little restless.
The air was cold but it was soothing, Kai thought about ways to find the boy in order to calm Scepter down and how to find the bloodstone too.
'If only I know what it looks like, I could have described it to someone, that would be a good starting point' he sighed as he thought to himself.
He walked back to the bed and laid down, 'if I am going to stay here much longer, I will have to do something about this bed' he thought, adjusting himself on the bed, trying to find a perfect position to sleep in.
Jax sat at the bar area for a little while looking bored, he gulped down the remaining drink and decided to take a stroll round the city since he wasn't feeling sleepy.
Jax walked not more than five steps down the street of the guest inn, when his wolf began to prance around in his head,
"What is wrong with you Nepal?" He asked his wolf, but the animal just kept whining impatiently.
Just as though something pulled at him, he hurried down the street and around the block, not knowing where he was going or what he was looking for.
He just followed his wolf's pull. Just as he stepped into the next street, he caught a glimpse of two figures, one of them looking familiar.
His wolf tugged at him harder causing him to wince a little as he tried to recall why anyone would look familiar in a strange city.
Before Jax could think of anything, the figures had disappeared into the alley.
He had the urge to pursue them but thought better of it, and headed back to the inn to catch some sleep.
He had remembered why the figure looked familiar, and he must alert Kai. Maybe this would be the first clue to finding the whereabouts of the Bloodstone.
It was almost 8am when Kai was startled by a loud knock on his room door, angry at the disturbance, he growled and stomped to go open the door.
"I found the boy from the accident!" Jax said as soon as Kai opened the door.
