Hunter POV
Seeing my mate sit at a table full of guys only fueled my rage from earlier this morning. She should've been sitting with me, not Harvey and his crew.
I had told Sheila to put in a good word for me with Venus. Clearly, that hadn't worked.
"I'm sorry, Hunter. I tried to be her friend. She wasn't interested in talking to me." That's what Sheila told me after they finished math class.
I told her it was ok, but it wasn't. Not really. I couldn't be mad at Sheila when it wasn't her fault, but that didn't mean I was fine with the idea that my mate wanted nothing to do with me. The girl didn't even want to have mutual friends with me, instead she became closer to Harvey.
I couldn't understand what she saw in that prick. I watched as she talked and laughed with him and his friends, which is more than she had ever done with me.
At the table I sat at, my friends continued to talk. I only tuned them out because my main focus was on my mate and how she wasn't with me right now.
My stare was stone cold as I looked over to the table across from me. A couple of the guys noticed, and one named Zeke nodded in my direction.
My face was immovable as my mate turned to look my way. I needed her to see that I was unhappy with what she was doing to me. Her smile faltered as she took in my facial expression and a frown took its place.
A small part of me held out hope that she cared. It was soon crushed as she turned back to the boys at her table.

Despite my mate's lack of feelings toward me, I couldn't give up. School had ended and I spotted her walking to her car in the parking lot. History this morning had been our only class together so this was my last chance to talk to her for the day.
I debated on how to approach her knowing I had said all the wrong things earlier today. Before she could get away, I quickly sped up my pace and caught up to her.
"If you're looking for something to do after school, you could come to the pack house. I know how hard it is being new and I'd introduce you to people if you like." I suggested.
"No. I already have friends."
I held back a snarl knowing exactly who those friends were. Keeping my calm, I tried again.
"Ok. How would you like to go to a party on Friday?" I asked.
"With you?" She asked skeptically. I would've loved to take her as my date, but knew she wouldn't want that.
"Not exactly, but I will be there. Actually, most every wolf our age will be there."
"Maybe I'll decide to swing by for a little while. I suppose it could be fun."
"Definitely. It will be."
"Mkay."
Without saying more, she hopped into her car and drove off. She didn't promise anything but if she did come to the party, it would be another opportunity for me to get close to her.
Now that I had taken a small step in the right direction, I needed a better game plan. I had a person in mind that could help me, though I had a feeling I would regret it later.
***********************
I let myself into my parents' house, knowing my dad would be back from the office by now. Stepping into the living room, I caught sight of my parents in a very intimate position on the couch.
They were covered only by a thin blanket as they held each other in their arms. My mom's head rested on my father's chest as she kept her eyes closed. I watched as my dad twirled a strand of her hair around and stared at her lovingly.
I interrupted their intimate moment to let them know I was here. "I can see you're really taking advantage of having your kids out of the house."
Having been broken out of their trance, they looked at me startled.
"Go to the kitchen. We'll meet you in there when we're dressed." My mother told me.
I went into the kitchen and within a few minutes they came in.
My dad was only wearing some basketball shorts and my mom had one of his tshirts on. She didn't even bother putting on pants because his shirt went down to the tops of her knees.
"I'm never sitting on that couch again." I said with a disgusted look on my face.
"Don't overreact. We've done that plenty of times before and you've never had a problem sitting there." My mom rolled her eyes at me. Sometimes she acted like she was still my age.
"I didn't really need to know that, Mom."
"What are you doing here?" My dad asked, thankfully changing the subject.
"I need advice." I said seriously.
"Well, you've come to the right place. We give great advice. It's time you finally figure that out." My mom said.
"What kind of advice?" My dad asked.
"Girls."
"Oooh! This is exciting! You never talk to me about your girlfriends." My mom beamed.
"This isn't about girlfriends. I found my mate."
"Who is she?" She asked.
"The rogue you let into our territory." I answered.
"Venus Griffin?"
I only nodded assuming that was her name and my mom in turn slapped my dad's arm. "See? I told you it was a good idea."
"I know, sweetie. You were right." He said rubbing his arm as he kissed her forehead.
"So what's wrong? Why do you need advice?" She asked me.
"She said she doesn't want a mate. She won't even give me the time of day. That's how much she hates me."
"I'm sure you'll get her to come around eventually, hun." My mom reassured me.
"Yeah, but how? What should I do, Dad?"
"She's your mate, son. You need to figure out this one by yourself."
"This is why I never ask you for advice."
"You want to be alpha, you need to find out how to solve problems on your own. I won't always be here to help you out so you can't always ask me to fix something when it doesn't go your way." My dad said.
I gritted my teeth at the reminder of our last fight. I didn't think that asking him for advice would only give him another example for why I wasn't ready to be alpha yet. I never would have come here if I had.
"Thanks for nothing, Dad." I spit out the last word with venom. The old man only refused to help me because he wanted to keep his title longer. I should have known he wouldn't care about my situation.
"You'll see someday, son. This is something you need to figure out on your own."
I left the house seeing now what a waste this visit had been.
