Chapter Twenty One
Jenny wrote Pat a letter. It said,
I want you to know that I am deeply ashamed of what I did. You may think this is just another tactic on my part, and if you do I won’t blame you, but it is not. If you never speak to me again I will understand.
The only excuse I can make is that being here for five months has twisted my mind. If any good can come out of what happened, it is that it has shocked me into realising it, though I appreciate that it is no comfort to you. But at least take heed of what I am saying, and make sure it does not happen to you. I told the truth when I said I was a straight when I came here.
