Jenny stood in Reception, eying the new inmates. She’d returned more than ever to her interest inside the unit.
Mariette had come out of solitary at the end of last week, but they hadn’t spoken yet. She’d set eyes on Mariette several times, but Mariette hadn’t even glanced at her. She didn’t think that Mariette was deliberately ignoring her – Mariette was simply like that – but she was holding back from going up to her herself. Her change of feelings about Mariette had stayed.
