Chapter Seventeen On the day of the Huge Tumble (as it had come to be called), Jenny found it difficult at first to veer aside from the cross country run, being for­ever in sight of other runners, and usually in the sight of screws as well. On the other hand there didn’t seem to be any drones above them, contrary to expectation. In the end she pretended to twist her ankle and disappeared behind a tree, where she sat down. It seemed ages before the other runners had stopped passing. At least no one had come to investigate her sitting here. She peered cautiously round the tree trunk and came out when there were no more than one or two people to be seen, none of them apparently to do with the unit.
