Best Friend

My initial shock wore off, replaced by a dizzying mix of fear and exhilaration. I spent the rest of the night practicing, my bedroom becoming a chaotic stage for my newfound abilities. Books levitated, posters rearranged themselves, and my stuffed animals performed an impromptu aerial ballet. My Sleep was impossible; the buzzing in my skull was a constant reminder of the power surging within me. The next morning, i felt different – stronger, somehow more alert. I moved cautiously, fearing a sudden, uncontrolled burst of telekinesis. My familiar routine of school felt surreal; the mundane tasks of lockers and hallways felt oddly distant, as if i were watching myself from a distance, a ghost observing a mundane existence that no longer truly belonged to me. At lunch, my found Liana, my best friend, already seated at my usual table. Liana, with her bright, inquisitive eyes and a perpetually messy bun, looked up, noticing my distracted air. “Anna? You’re quiet. Did you have a rough night?” she asked, her brow furrowed with concern. I hesitated. How could i possibly explain what had happened? That I'd discovered i could move things with my mind? It sounded insane, even to me. “I… I had a weird dream,” I finally mumbled, fiddling with the straw in my juice box. “Really weird.” i watched, slightly anxiously, as a nearby ketchup bottle swayed slightly. I immediately focused on stopping its movement and forced myself to breathe normally, lest Liana notice my strange behaviour. Liana tilted her head, unconvinced. “A dream? You look pale. Are you okay?” She reached across the table, her hand hovering over mine. I allowed myself a weak smile. “Yeah, I’m fine. Just… tired.” i avoided looking directly at her, still feeling the undercurrent of power humming beneath my skin, a thrilling, terrifying secret simmering just below the surface of my ordinary life. The bell rang, cutting short the conversation. I knew i needed to figure this out, and soon. But first, I had another day of school to get through. Me and Liana headed towards my next class, the weight of my secret pressing down upon me, a heavy burden, yet a potential that felt both wondrous and deeply unsettling. What will she do next?
