Kenton kicked the courtyard gate open with one powerful strike.
A group of people swarmed into the yard, heading straight for my room. "Elaine, stop hiding! The evidence is undeniable. You will sign the inheritance waiver agreement today!" Kenton held a thick stack of documents in his hand, his manner aggressive and imposing.
Mia followed closely behind, fanning the flames of conflict. "Elaine, all you need to do is admit your mistake and hand over what you stole. Madam Hale will go easy on you."
Madam Hale let out a cold snort. "Go easy on her? A person with such flawed conduct is unworthy of being part of the Hale family! Make her sign the document at once and leave with the money!"
Seth pushed his glasses up the bridge of his nose. "She must be hiding inside, destroying evidence. Kenton, just kick the door down."
Without hesitation, Kenton lifted his leg and kicked the bedroom door open. The crowd surged inside, ready to confront me. Yet the room was completely empty. The bed was neatly made, the wardrobe stood wide open, and every single one of my belongings was gone. My suitcase had disappeared without a trace. Only a faint sweet scent of mango cream pancake lingered in the air.
"Where is she?" Kenton froze in shock. He glanced frantically around the room, even checking under the bed.
"Could she have heard us coming and fled early?" Seth frowned deeply.
Madam Hale trembled with rage. "Fled? There is nowhere she can run! Send people after her at once!"
Leonard and Eleanor exchanged a stunned glance, clearly unprepared for how decisively I had left.
"Kenton, look at the desk!" Mia suddenly shrieked, pointing at the table. Everyone followed her gaze. Two items lay pressed on the desktop. The first was a handwritten note from me. Scrawled across the paper in messy handwriting were the words:
Received the 50 million. I'm off to Hawaii. Don't look for me again. No worries.
The second item was a thick stack of photos and bank transfer records. Scattered beside them were the broken fragments of the counterfeit Venetian glass inkwell.
Kenton strode forward and picked up the photos. One glance was all it took for his expression to darken completely. "What… what is this?" Seth stepped closer as well. After seeing the contents of the photos clearly, he gasped in shock. The pictures captured Mia beaming brightly while holding the genuine antique glass inkwell, completing a deal with a secondhand dealer.
